All current materials stress conservation of the colonial shell and interiors while adding hospitality amenities. A simple timeline • c. 18th century: Original Dutch colonial bungalow erected in the beach–cemetery–church precinct of Fort Kochi. (Setting corroborated; exact build date not publicly listed.) • 19th–early 20th century: Likely maintenance/alterations during British rule (as was common across Fort Kochi). • 21st century: Careful renovation and reopening as The Poovath Heritage / Amritara The Poovath Beachfront Heritage, retaining the Dutch-colonial character. I arrived earlier than expected after a very long taxi ride and was warmly received by Adis who was manning the office desk. I slowly absorbed the magnificence of the building and its location and the history of many souls that had enlivened the salons .. in perhaps dutch and english perhaps even the dead Cristão language of the portuguese Jiya is a woman from the local community and manages the property. I have to say i feel proud when i see a competent women in such a responsible position in this cosmopolitan multireligious society as Cochin is. They upgraded me to a first floor room and only then the fully impact of this colonial building hit me . Yes, after visiting many years this favourite spot in Kerala, i have found this hidden gem. Psst.. tell this secret to only your best friends . Service was very slow,but think some of this was because such a small hotel but staff friendly, room was ok nothing special but clean, location was excellent 5 min walk from Chinese fishing nets and restaurants extra

Went for 2 days, and staff didn't understand me. Rooms were dirty and there was only one staff at breakfast making food and taking orders. Pool was dirty. It took an hour for me to wait for prawns because he didn't understand what I said. Food was fine . The electricity kept turning on and off and… more

Went for 2 days, and staff didn't understand me. Rooms were dirty and there was only one staff at breakfast making food and taking orders. Pool was dirty. It took an hour for me to wait for prawns because he didn't understand what I said. Food was fine . The electricity kept turning on and off and they ran out of water while I was taking a shower. Next time I won't be coming here and it overrated.
