This was our second visit. How could you not come back? Stunning building in a perfect location! The staff are so welcoming it feels like coming home. We arrived in the hotel boat across the lake, no wind, flat calm, blue sky, could it get any better? Some old staff, some new and it was Holi such a special celebration! We booked too late for our choice of room but actually all the rooms are different comfortable and interesting so no complaints. This was our last stop before home! Our friend/driver Anand had met us from the airport and we had discussed what we could do in our few days. He knows wonderful places off the tourist trail and never ceases to amaze! The hotel restaurant is excellent and the rooftop location is magical, yes you do have to pinch yourself 🤗 We were there over a weekend so it was very busy. But also entertainment and wonderful music and dancing! It is always very busy around the hotel one day there was a film crew to fall over to get in! People come just to take photographs but you get used to it, We are hoping to go back next year, the only downside is that it is so far away!

This is a beautiful place to stay although it is looking a bit tired in places. It is a real instagrammers hot spot as the views of the lake are super. This is a beautiful place to stay although it is looking a bit tired in places. It is a real instagrammers hot spot as the views of the lake are super. Unfortunately the hotel seem happy to let hoards of people in each day, taking photo after photo, even if it inconveniences the hotel guests. Lunch on our first day was spent with people standing too close to our table. When we discussed it with reception, they smiled and seemed happy with how busy it gets. Breakfast is dismal; lukewarm food with no care or attention and the service is slow. This could be so much better as the setting is great but the service and breakfast let it down at the moment.

The Jagat Niwas Palace hotel is a place of contrasts. We chose this hotel due to its central location to the major attractions around Udaipur. The Palace is literally a 5 minute walk and there are plenty of tuk tuks that can also get you to places a little further out. First impressions when arriving is simply WOW!! The architecture, colors and presentation of the courtyard and balcony areas is stunning. Our room (208) overlooking Lake Pichola was equally as stunning. The bed was comfortable and room spacious and clean. The bathroom/shower was perhaps a little small relative to the overall room size. Make sure you ask for extra towels as the floor does flood after a shower. However, for us our experience was a little like that chocolate that has all the elaborate wrapping until that first bight and lasting feeling it was not quite the experience you had expected. So is the case here. Sadly the restaurant staff are abysmal and slovenly in their demeanor. Service is slow, staff are more preoccupied on their phones than to the needs of the guests. Breakfast was very, VERY average though one of the hovering wait staff promptly certainly looked after himself with a filled plate from the buffet then hidden under the bench and taken away by him with the used plates, no doubt to be consumed by him later (I saw you!!). There is a washing service available though check to make sure the washing returned is yours. Somehow we received someone else's washing much to the bemusement of the staff member at the reception desk. Correct room, wrong clothes??? The hotel has a problem between deciding whether it is a hotel or a film set for people off the street to pose for their next Instagram post. Forget having lunch or dinner at the restaurant as the place is filled with Instagrammers writhing over the place like self indulgent peacocks. We ate elsewhere after our first lunch there. The hotel needs to decide whether it is a hotel for paid guests or a Bollywood stage set. You also have to consider that there is relatively little visible security around and with non guest having seemingly easy access it is a concern. (Sorry red ropes with "Residents Only" doesn't cut it). There is a tour desk (when its open) but we found the tuk tuk drivers know more about the sights to visit and how to get there. It is frustrating as the hotel could be incredible if better managed.
