A Magical Return to the Lake Palace — Taj Hospitality at Its Best Taj Lake Palace has always been a special place for us. My wife and I celebrated our second wedding anniversary here in 2007, and we have remembered that stay very fondly ever since. Nearly two decades later, we decided to return to celebrate our son’s 10th birthday and my father-in-law’s birthday, which happen to fall on the same day. I am happy to say that the experience did not disappoint. This was Taj hospitality at its best. From the moment we arrived by boat and received the traditional welcome with flowers, there was a sense of occasion. The Lake Palace remains one of those rare hotels where simply being on the property is part of the experience. Our rooms were relatively small and somewhat dated, but they were extremely charming and, importantly, very clean. The hotel is currently undergoing a significant renovation, and the wing facing the City Palace is being renovated, so our rooms instead faced the northern side of the lake. The age of the rooms was probably the only aspect of the stay that felt less than exceptional. The evening entertainment was outstanding. The performers were excellent, and one gentleman dancing while balancing a large chariot wheel on his head gave one of the most remarkable performances we have ever seen. Being able to sit outside, order drinks and enjoy the performance against the backdrop of the palace and lake was wonderful. Dinner at Neel Kamal was magnificent. Every dish recommended by the staff was beautifully prepared. It was an exceptional traditional North Indian meal from beginning to end, finished with excellent paan. The following morning, before breakfast, we came across a flute player performing on the terrace. It was such a simple touch, but somehow it captured the spirit of the Lake Palace perfectly. The sound of the flute in that setting added something unmistakably Indian and almost timeless to the experience. Our four-year-old son, who loves music, simply stood there on the terrace listening, completely captivated. Watching him quietly enjoy the music was another one of those small moments from this stay that we will remember for years to come. We then had breakfast at Jharokha, which was another excellent experience, with a wonderful variety of food and the attentive service one expects from Taj. One thing I would strongly recommend is spending at least two nights here. I had watched the Flip Flop Traveller review on YouTube, in which he suggested that one night at Lake Palace was enough and commented on noise from the birds. Our experience was quite different. We had no issue whatsoever with bird noise, and I actually left wishing we had stayed another day. There is so much charm, history and detail within the palace itself that rushing through it in a single night misses part of what makes this hotel special. This is a place to slow down and experience. The most memorable moment, however, was what the hotel arranged for our son’s birthday. The staff had set up a cake for him at the entrance to the lobby, overlooking the lake with Fateh Prakash Palace in the background. Watching him cut his 10th birthday cake in that setting was extraordinary. It is one of those experiences our family will remember for the rest of our lives, and I hope our son remembers it for the rest of his. Overall, this was a stunning experience and a wonderful return to a hotel that already held very special memories for us. Almost twenty years after our first stay, the Lake Palace still has its magic. The rooms are showing their age, and with the hotel undergoing a multi-year renovation, I will probably wait until the renovations are complete before returning. But that does not diminish what an extraordinary place this remains. Five stars without hesitation.

There can’t be a better location for a top 5 star hotel- with a marble palace on a lake surrounded by other palaces- that’s a given. But the service was what was outstanding! From Mahendra who took care of us and our kiddo during meals, to the front office staff and the spa! Don’t miss Neel Kamal and the food cooked by Anop Singh. Don’t go for the usual Indian fare and try the local rajasthani fare! We left it to Mahendra to recommend and couldn’t thank him enough.

Our stay at the Taj Lake Palace was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with exceptional warmth and genuine hospitality that made us feel truly special. The palace itself is breathtaking—an architectural masterpiece set amidst the serene waters of Lake Pichola. Every corner reflects timeless elegance, and the views are simply unmatched. Waking up to the panoramic lake and city views was an experience we'll cherish forever. To our delight, the team surprised us by upgrading our Palace Room to a beautiful Suite, making our stay even more memorable. It was a thoughtful gesture that perfectly reflected the hotel's commitment to creating unforgettable experiences for its guests. The food was outstanding throughout our stay. Every meal at the restaurants was delicious, and the breakfast spread was on another level, with an incredible variety and impeccable quality. Special mention to the restaurant staff including Alona, chef Babu Singh Bhati and manager Pramod Narayanan for taking special care of our daughters. A heartfelt thank you to the entire team at Taj Lake Palace for their impeccable service, attention to detail, and world-class hospitality.
