Our four-night stay at The Tamara Kodai was nothing short of exceptional. If I could give it 10 stars instead of 5, I absolutely would. From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations. The property is breathtakingly beautiful, surrounded by misty mountains and lush greenery. Combined with Kodaikanal’s cool weather, it felt like stepping into another world. We often found ourselves wanting to stay within the resort rather than venture out, which says a lot about how special the place is. We travelled with our 2-year-old toddler, and this was easily the most child-friendly luxury property we’ve stayed at. Our son absolutely loved the expansive lawns and open spaces where he could safely run around for hours. Every single member of the staff, from the reception team and housekeeping to the gardeners, buggy drivers and restaurant staff, warmly interacted with him and made him feel so welcome. One thing that truly touched us was how thoughtfully they accommodated our toddler’s needs. He’s a picky eater, and milk is one thing he never refuses. Throughout our four-night stay, the team happily sent warm milk to our room whenever we requested it, filled his feeding bottle exactly as we wanted, and never charged us for it. At the restaurant, if he didn’t like one dish, they patiently brought alternatives without hesitation. On one evening when he refused everything, the chef noticed and kindly offered him a banana, which ended up being his dinner along with milk. It was such a thoughtful gesture that meant a lot to us as parents. The food deserves special mention. The breakfast and dinner buffets had an impressive variety with excellent salads, breads, cheeses, soups and live counters. The soups, in particular, were outstanding. While I felt the non-vegetarian curries could have been better, the overall dining experience was excellent. Our room was spacious, impeccably clean and overlooked the mist-covered mountains. The elegant interiors had a charming colonial feel that made the stay even more memorable. The temperature-controlled swimming pool was another highlight. The staff thoughtfully adjusted the water temperature for our toddler and provided floaties, allowing him to enjoy both the shallow and deeper sections comfortably. It quickly became one of his favourite experiences during the trip. A heartfelt thank you to a few team members who made our stay truly special: * Mr. Aditya from La Providence Restaurant, whose patience and kindness with our endless requests for our toddler never wavered. * Mr. Abhi from Elevation Spa, whose wonderful Abhyanga therapy left my husband deeply relaxed. Although the spa is on the pricier side, the experience itself was excellent. * Mr. Mani, our buggy driver, who was always cheerful, courteous and incredibly helpful. I’d also like to appreciate the wonderful ladies at the reception, the housekeeping team, the pool staff and everyone else we interacted with. Every single person genuinely cared about making our stay memorable. If I had to mention one small area for improvement, it would be the Schezwan Fried Rice from room service. It was spicy but lacked the characteristic Schezwan flavour. Apart from that, we genuinely couldn’t find anything to complain about. The Tamara Kodai has mastered something that many luxury resorts strive for but few truly achieve: making guests feel genuinely cared for. We arrived expecting a beautiful holiday, but we left with memories of extraordinary hospitality. We can’t wait to return.
