If there’s 1 person though who really shined, it was GIA our ayana wedding handler! She was truly amazing and goes above and beyond. I truly want to recommend her as someone who will make your wedding perfect and hassle free! She responds fast, makes suggestions and always thinks of the couple! We love her! AYANA is a great property overall and probably one of the better choices in Bali if what you are looking for is the full resort experience. The grounds are beautiful, there are plenty of facilities, Kubu Beach is very nice, the rooms are comfortable, and housekeeping during our stay was excellent and attentive. We booked the Escape to Luxury package, which included a daily 2-course set menu for either lunch or dinner. We thought the value of that part of the package was only average. The set-menu selections were relatively limited compared with the regular restaurant menus, so after a couple of days it starts feeling somewhat restrictive rather than like a real benefit. Our biggest issue, and honestly the main reason we may not return, was the vegetarian selection at several of the restaurants. We have one vegetarian in our family, and at a resort of this size and price point it is simply embarrassing that at KISIK one of the only realistic options is mac and cheese, while at DAVA it may come down to something like potato soup (and that was after contacting the concierge the day before). We aren't expecting an entire vegetarian menu, but we also shouldn't have to decide where the whole family can eat based on whether one person can find something beyond children's-menu food or a bowl of soup. For a resort with this many restaurants, that is surprisingly poor. The other weak point was front-of-house F&B service. Everyone was friendly and clearly trying, but the service itself was average at best and would benefit from significantly more training. Plates were regularly served across other guests rather than from the proper side, and main courses sometimes arrived several minutes apart. On more than one occasion, one person was nearly finished eating - or their food was getting cold - before the remaining meals arrived. These aren't catastrophic problems, but they are things you simply don't expect repeatedly at a resort positioning itself at this level. The one exception was the service and food at Dava, which was exceptional. English communication was also a struggle at times. Again, everyone was friendly, but there were occasions where relatively simple requests required considerably more explanation than they should have. Breakfast had a very large selection, particularly if you enjoy Indonesian or Korean food, and there was plenty to choose from overall. The one bizarre exception was the cheese selection. For a resort at this price point, it was probably the cheapest and lowest-quality cheese selection I have encountered at a luxury hotel. With the quality and variety available everywhere else at breakfast, it stood out even more. Something unexpected, and I highly recommend, is Ayana’s Thelassotherapy experience. We anticipated a warm pool with a few jets. It actually is a structured experience (around 1 hour) where stationed attendants on the side guide the guests to a multitude of targeted jet stations. What an amazing experience with views over the ocean. We paired this with a Balinese massage. We highly recommend both as we have also found Balinese massage incredibly healing and relaxing. The room itself was very nice, housekeeping was attentive, and the overall resort facilities are excellent. Oddly enough, one of the things AYANA does better than almost any resort we have stayed at is its app. It is genuinely useful. Restaurant information, resort maps, activities, reservations, requesting services and other information are organized well enough that you actually use it rather than deleting it after the first day. With a property this large, that makes a noticeable difference. Overall, AYANA is a very good resort and we enjoyed our stay. If you want to arrive, stay on property and have a complete resort vacation, it does that extremely well. But for us, food is a significant part of a vacation, and the combination of poor vegetarian options and inconsistent restaurant service keeps this from being a 5-star review. Those are also the reasons we would hesitate before returning.
