Puri Wirata suited my plan to relax by the beach and snorkel. Great snorkeling directly in front of hotel or a 10 minute walk to Lipah beach. Plenty of warungs to eat at within 10 minute walk, plus spa salons. Lovely gardens. Two pools to choose from and always seating available around the pool. Room was light and airy. If you’re after nightlife or shopping this isn’t the area for you.

“Very good, with best snorkeling along this section of the coast”

Puri Wirata is an excellent upper-middle range hotel on the north coast of Bali. We spent 7 days in June, 2024. We are avid snorkelers and wanted to do some scuba diving too, so we chose the Amed region where this resort is located. ‘Downtown’ Amed is more crowded and touristy; however Puri Wirata is a bit outside that center. There are a few restaurants and convenience stores nearby, but no vibrant town or nightlife right there. There are no Grab cars in the region, but most drivers on the road will be your taxi, and any business knows taxis to call, so transportation is easy. Or you can Grab/rent a scooter if you want to take your life in your hands. Our ‘Master Villa’ had air conditioning in the bedroom (just adequate), but not the living room, bathroom, or kitchen. If you leave the bedroom door open, the remainder of the villa gets cooler than outdoors, but remains too warm (and the bedroom remains cool). The kitchen is adequate; the bathroom is excellent. Comfortable bed. Pretty clean for the tropics. Wifi was spotty in our room, fine at the (al fresco) restaurant. Telkomsel service (via e-sim) is strong. There are two nice pools (one is deep only) and comfortable pool furniture for lounging. Ample shade is available. The grounds are lush and pretty. One caution: there are many unusual or awkward ledges, edges, and steps, unguarded…if you have young children or are mobility impaired, caution is warranted. The ‘beach’ is narrow, small cobblestone, and mostly gone at high tide. But that’s okay because Amed is for snorkeling & diving, not sandy expanses. In our exploration of the coastline, the beach right in front of Puri Wirata offered the very best snorkeling, which was outstanding on the right hand side. Lipah Beach, 10 min walk east, was also excellent (also right & center); other nearby sites were fairly good. The USAT Liberty wreck was a fantastic scuba dive site. Puri Wirata is associated with Bali Reef Divers (on site), with whom we did a refresher course and 3 dives. They were fine, with decent equipment. One guide was good; the other was insufficiently communicative. The manager was very helpful. Recommended overall. The restaurant is very good. Both Indonesian and western food. Alcoholic drinks were poor and expensive, like elsewhere in Indonesia. Hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Laundry was pennies. Pre-trip communication was slow and challenging, but it all worked out in the end. Although the AC and wifi were not ideal, you have to compare this to the alternatives. We spent nearly a month in Indonesia, with a wide variety of hotel experiences. By local standards I think Puri Wirata is an excellent choice, especially if you want to walk out your door to some of the best snorkeling in Bali.

My recent stay at Puri Wirata Dive Resort and Spa in Amed was a delightful experience, thanks to its prime beachfront location and welcoming atmosphere. Situated right by the beach, the resort offers stunning views and direct access to the tranquil waters, making it a perfect spot for a serene getaway. One of the highlights of my stay was the resort's ability to accommodate our last-minute request for an extra bed just before our arrival. The staff were incredibly friendly and efficient, ensuring our needs were met promptly. Puri Wirata is an excellent location for catching breathtaking sunrises. Waking up to the view of the sun rising over the horizon was truly magical and added a special touch to our mornings. While the resort boasts a typical older design, it adds a nostalgic charm to the place. However, considering that Amed is an emerging spot for tourism in Bali, a few modern updates could enhance the overall experience. Puri Wirata Dive Resort and Spa offers a wonderful beachfront stay with friendly service and picturesque sunrises. Despite its older design, the resort's charm and location make it a lovely choice for travelers looking to explore the beauty of Amed.

I stayed at this hotel for a week, and while I truly believe the staff do their best with the resources they have, it’s not a place I’d personally recommend. There are certainly some positives worth mentioning: its location is fantastic—just steps from the beach—with two lovely pools that offer beautiful ocean views. I also appreciated the affordability of the excursion transportation. However, the hotel shows signs of needing serious maintenance. Unfortunately, the bed linens were torn, which felt like a clear sign of neglect and a lack of attention to detail. Breakfast was repetitive and served without much care, which added to the overall impression that there’s little pride or passion in the service. You can sense that something is missing in the atmosphere—it feels like a hotel simply going through the motions.
