We loved the staff at this resort - especially our yoga teachers. This morning lovely Wida led us through an energising session with a backdrop of the jungle and sounds of the mountain stream and morning birdsong. Sublime way to start the day.

We recently stayed at Aksari Resort Ubud as a family on a Luxury Escapes package. Having read many of the reviews beforehand, I actually agree with quite a few of them, so I thought I’d share a balanced perspective. Firstly, the location. The resort is around 40 minutes from Ubud, which is very easy to see when booking, so this certainly wasn’t a surprise. In hindsight, though, it probably wasn’t the right location for our family as we found ourselves wanting to spend more time in Ubud than we anticipated. The complimentary shuttle runs every two hours from 9:00am, with the last pickup from Ubud at 5:45pm. We didn’t find it unreliable, but we did find it fully booked on one occasion, even outside of school holiday periods. That meant we had to arrange a private driver once, which was a little frustrating when we had specifically chosen the resort knowing there was a shuttle available. It also means you can’t really enjoy dinner in Ubud if you’re relying on the shuttle. As part of our Luxury Escapes package, we had an all-inclusive dining option. Unfortunately, we found the menu quite limited, with very little variety, and if we returned, we wouldn’t choose the all-inclusive package again. We also felt some of the à la carte pricing was expensive. For example, two coffees cost us around AUD $15, which felt quite high. Where the resort truly shines is its staff. We’d particularly like to recognise Lovi in the restaurant, who was absolutely outstanding throughout our stay. Attentive, genuinely kind and the perfect example of Balinese hospitality. We’d also like to thank Okta from the concierge team, who went out of her way to help us organise several important parts of our holiday and made everything incredibly easy. We stayed in a one-bedroom pool villa, which was beautiful and very private. One thing worth mentioning for anyone travelling during the cooler months is that the pools are very cold, and because the resort is nestled in the jungle, the evenings become surprisingly chilly once the sun goes down. Definitely pack a light jumper or jacket. Overall, we had a lovely holiday and made some wonderful family memories. For us personally, we probably wouldn’t return because the location was a little too isolated and the dining options weren’t varied enough. However, if you’re looking for somewhere peaceful to completely switch off, spend a couple of days relaxing in your own private villa and simply enjoy the surroundings, then Aksari could be exactly what you’re looking for.

Wonderful welcome. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Wonderful setting. Some maintenance matters but nothing serious. The spa is excellent. For a stay of more than a few days the food is lacking in variety. The breakfast is sub par with a poor range of options. The resort is a considerable distance from the main town; depending on traffic up to 35 - 40 minutes. There are resort shuttles but it is recommended these are booked a day in advance. Not ideal for any sort of spontaneous decision making! Would not return given distance to the town and lack of variety of food options. Would recommend for couples who enjoy tranquility in a superb location far from the madding crowd.

“Stay of two halves!”

This hotel was the second stop on our Singapore & Bali itinerary arranged for us by Voyage Privé. We stayed for 6 days & for the first 3 we thoroughly enjoyed the peace & tranquility of the resort which is situated amidst an amazing jungle / forest setting . The online piccies are wholly accurate with the hotel being in an elevated position about 20 minutes drive north of Ubud itself . A courtesy bus can take you into Ubud & a couple of nearby attractions if you can drag yourself away from the beautiful & serene environment. The staff are all truly wonderful but Korja became a special friend during our stay & we had many chats during meal times & afternoon tea sessions . Our forest view suite was most comfortable & we slept well during our stay. The main issue for us was that this resort quite often hosts weddings . On day 4 we were suddenly aware of a large group who literally took over the dining room & pool areas with all the associated noise & inconvenience . So in conclusion just be aware that you may end up with a different experience as a result of some Event taking place in a relatively small hotel.
