I just wanted to take a moment to recognise two staff members who truly made my friend and I’s stay at Apurva Kempinski Nusa Dua amazing, Audrey and Koi. Both of them were incredibly accommodating and consistently professional throughout our stay. If we hadn’t been told they were interns or trainees, we genuinely would not have guessed. Their service felt warm, polished, and effortless, the kind that comes from people who actually love what they do. They also went out of their way to surprise us with the sweetest gifts, which honestly made our entire experience 10x better. That kind of thoughtfulness is rare and it didn’t go unnoticed. Our stay was amazing because of them. They have incredibly bright futures ahead, and I hope this reaches whoever oversees their development. They deserve the recognition. 🤍

Having admired this hotel’s architecture and reputation from afar for years, my expectations were exceptionally high. However, while there is much to appreciate, the experience ultimately fell short of its lofty reputation and premium price point. It is a breathtaking structure, but a few issues persist behind the grand facade. The Highlights Exceptional breakfast: The selection at Pala is, without exaggeration, the best I have ever experienced. It is an extravagant, high-quality spread spanning Western, Chinese, Indonesian, and Indian cuisines. The roast duck and prawn dumplings were particular standouts; I recommend allowing at least an hour to fully enjoy the offerings. Lobby & design: The lobby is an architectural masterpiece—grand, expansive, and brought to life by a live pianist and striking granite floors. To truly appreciate the design, I suggest watching the sunset from the pool area while looking back at the hotel. Additionally, the balconies at the lobby overlooking the water offer the best panoramic views of the resort. Room comfort: The sleeping experience was a highlight; I rested on one of the most comfortable beds I have ever experienced. Service recovery: The staff showed a commitment to making things right. After I expressed disappointment with the "Grand Deluxe" view (which faces away from the resort), I was upgraded to an Ocean Court room. Furthermore, when I encountered maintenance issues, they were addressed promptly. The Drawbacks Construction next door: Significant development is underway for a new property between the Apurva and the Hilton. At 8:00 AM, my room was literally shaking from the drilling. While the hotel cannot control the development, it is a reality guests must face. As this project is in its early stages, the disruption likely won't end anytime soon; I strongly recommend requesting a room as far from the construction site as possible. Furthermore, the work also impacts the property’s panoramic views. Maintenance & housekeeping: I struggled with the heavy balcony doors for quite some time before having to call for assistance. More concerningly, I discovered a frog hopping around my bathroom late at night, suggesting it had been there since check-in. To the hotel's credit, the duty manager reached out, apologised and provided a complimentary transfer to my next destination, but these lapses simply shouldn’t occur at this price point. Lacklustre views from the room: For a luxury resort, the views from the entry-level categories (Grand deluxe and Ocean court) are nothing to write home about. Having stayed at the Hilton next door, I found their more affordable rooms offered far more majestic ocean views than the Apurva's primary categories. Inconsistent service & crowds: Despite the bars and restaurants being nowhere near capacity during my visit, the service pace was incredibly slow when it came to the first drink—even for simple drink orders like a beer. Additionally, the hotel’s popularity for weddings means that prime views and public areas could be restricted if there is a private event. The check-in process can also be quite time-consuming due to the sheer volume of guests. Summary While the architecture and breakfast are undoubtedly world-class, a one-night stay is more than enough. In fact, one could simply visit for a meal to experience the resort's beauty without the high cost of a room. I’ve rated this a 4/5, though I would have comfortably given it a 3.5 if the option existed. I’m glad I finally saw it, but now that it’s out of my system, I’m in no hurry to return.
