We had a wonderful stay at The Laguna and thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The resort is beautiful, with stunning grounds, lovely pools, and a relaxing atmosphere that made our Bali holiday very special. We especially enjoyed hiring bikes and exploring the coastline and surrounding area, which was a fantastic experience. The food was excellent throughout our stay, with a great variety of delicious options and consistently high quality. The staff were warm, friendly, and attentive, always making us feel welcome. A special thank you to Maha, who assisted us during our stay and went above and beyond to make our visit memorable. His kindness, professionalism, and thoughtful little gifts were greatly appreciated and added a personal touch to our experience. The only disappointment was the beach and ocean. The sand itself has a beautiful colour, and the sea looks lovely from a distance, but unfortunately there was quite a bit of rubbish both on the beach and floating in the water during our stay. Because of this, we spent most of our time at the resort pools instead. While the pools occasionally had some leaves and natural debris from the surrounding tropical environment, they were much cleaner and more enjoyable than the ocean. Overall, we had a fantastic stay and created many wonderful memories here. We would happily recommend The Laguna to anyone visiting Bali and would love to return in the future. “A disappointing overall experience.”

I had high expectations for The Laguna as it was recommended to me by a highly regarded UK based travel agency. Alarm bells started to ring at check in when I was offered a “deal” whereby if I deposited a certain amount of money as a food and beverage credit there would be a “bonus” amount added on top - with the caveat that this was non-refundable. Needless to say I declined. The only reasons to do this is because either: (a) the food and drink is over-priced in the first place, or (b) the food outlets are failing to attract customers in a competitive environment so the hotel tries to lock them in to before they discover the competition outside. In the case of The Laguna, both of these were true. The outlets were largely empty in the evenings; the beach-front bar attempted to attract customers by playing excessively loud disco music at 6pm on a tranquil evening. This same bar was charging the equivalent of £5.50 for a small draight beer that was of very poor quality. I needed laundry done, but at no point during my three day stay did dialling reception get any kind of response. As a result I took my laundry to reception, and was effectively chided by the hotel agent for doing so- as if I might be new to 5 star hotels and unfamiliar with the etiquette. Room cleaning was patchy- a promised turn down service on only one of my three nights. Whilst most staff were lovely, on occasion there were misunderstandings and communication problems; I understand the difficulties (I don’t speak Bahasa Indonesian, so I don’t expect someone from Nusa Dua to have a perfect command of English), but I do expect to be asked for clarification if needed rather than to be ignored (this happened several times at breakfast). The room itself was OK, but was on the ground floor with a path outside, so very little privacy day and night. I never used the balcony as a result, and had to keep the curtains closed when getting changed as there was no shear net behind the drapes. The room was on the small side, with only a shower (no bath tub). It was very dark, getting little natural light for most of the day. I would recommend refusing a ground floor room at check in (there are admittedly many of these). The toiletries were of very average quality - like the cheap things you typically get in a modest hotel. The soap in particular was cheap and nasty - not local but mass produced, which is unusual in Indonesia where the toiletries are normally a highlight. The welcome gift was a bowl of fruit that got removed untouched the next day. I saw lots of these being removed largely untouched - what a waste. The mini-bar was a nickel-and-diming affair where everything was charged for (except bottled still water, of which there was an adequate supply). On the positive side, the grounds (including pools) are immaculate. I would almost certainly not stay again as there are nicer options nearby.
