Desamuda Village Hotel is perfectly placed in an idyllic setting. Secluded but only minutes away from the busy local shops and restaurants. It is about 5mins taxi/bike ride to the main town centre ( Seminyak Square) as well as the beach. Staff are attentive and ever ready to solve any issues that arise. Such as when a foul smell started to emanate from the drains in our room we were promptly upgraded to another villa with a private pool. The rooms are clean and have all the mod cons but the decor appears slightly worn and in need of an uplift. The over all environment is well maintained. The restaurant is lovely with cheerful staff enthusiastic to cater for your every need. Although breakfast is supposed to be a buffet staff still opt to wait on you. There’s ample free parking available and 24/7 security.

I stayed here for seven nights in May 2024. Likewise, I was a bit worried after reading some of the recent reviews. Yes, the property looks a bit tired in places, but nothing that some fresh paint and a little bit of maintenance wouldn’t fix. Yes, my room had a few issues, like the closet door half falling off, and some ugly piping in the bathrooms. Still, it was clean and very spacious, and the AC worked which you definitely need going all night. With that said, the property grounds are clean for the most part, and I saw gardeners frequently keeping it neat. The main pool, as featured, is just as blue and inviting as it looks. It’s rather large and has plenty of recliners, etc. I seldom saw many people using it. The rooms are cleaned daily, they do indeed come early (9 am) as others have noted. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I easily ordered a breakfast box one day as I had an early departure tour, and they even helped me by printing off a tourist map of Bali as they didn’t have any to hand. They also assisted with general enquiries with ease. The breakfast in the morning is adequate, though the pastries don’t always appear to be fresh. There’s a wide assortment though and plenty of choices. The property has easy access to the main road and there are lots of restaurants, bars, ATMs, etc. It’s surprisingly quiet, given the proximity to a busy street. There’s a great restaurant called MIND just at the entrance with tasty smoothies, reasonably priced meals, and generous portions. My only wish is that the hotel had a concierge or at least a rack with brochures of tours one can arrange once in Bali. I was hoping to organise a few tours upon arrival. I ended up just searching out tours and suppliers through Trip Advisor and contacting them directly.

We visited Desamuda Village as a family of 4, two adults and two children, aged 9 and 12. After we had booked it, I looked at the Tripadvisor reviews and got a little worried because some of them were negative. However, I’m very happy that we didn’t experience any of the same issues that the other reviewers reported. We arrived fairly late at night and checked in smoothly to the hotel. On arrival, we did have a problem with our bathroom: the sink tap leaked from underneath the sink, which made the whole bathroom, wet, and the showerhead was broken and squirted water out of the side. We reported this in the morning, and by the afternoon, both issues had been fixed with no fuss. Room: We stayed in a two bedroom villa with a private pool which was really large and perfect for our needs. There were two bedrooms (two large double beds both with mosquito nets around), two bathrooms (a shower and bath in both) a living room/seating area with a television (which we didn’t use) and a kitchen area. All but the kitchen area are fully air-conditioned - the kitchen is open to the private pool and has a ceiling fan). In terms of outside space for our villa, we had a little private pool, small but fine for a quick dip to cool off and the children enjoyed it. There is also a balcony on the first floor, which we didn’t really used, but looked nice and comfortable. The rooms are cleaned daily (they arrive early!) but if you put the don’t disturb sign out the cleaners don’t knock. Pool and bath towels are provided. Food and drink: Breakfast was good, with a good range of pastries, fresh fruit cooked food and the option to have an omelette or eggs made for you. We ate dinner a couple of times at the hotel and again the food was great. Drinks were very reasonably priced (as is the food). Pools: There are two pools one big one which is quite deep and good for swimming, one much smaller one which is good for splashing around in. Plus of course the pool with our villa. There weren’t loads of sunbeds around the pool but definitely enough and a couple of nice cabanas that you can sit in for some shade. Only negative for me was that the steps out of the bigger pool were damaged and very wobbly. Could do with being fixed as it’s hard to get out! Reception Always very polite and helped with taxis and advice. The hotel ordered us taxis a couple of times, very reasonable. However one time they said we could use the hotel driver and he was significantly more expensive. Always check the price before you take any taxi as we were massively overcharged for a taxi we got on the street too. Overall the hotel could do with a bit of maintenance and upgrading, but everything was clean and any problems dealt with quickly. Outside the hotel, we visited a cafe called Mind (just at the entrance to the street leading to the hotel). Excellent food there at all times of day!
