“Amazing five star hotel experience”

Our stay here was outstanding! Exceptional service and dining were the highlight of our visit. The room was spacious, very comfortable and well appointed. The dinner and breakfast were some of the best of our holiday in Ireland. Highly recommended!!

“Treated us like Royalty”

As we drove the beautiful drive through the manicured grounds to the Lough Eske Castle in Donegal I thought to myself...ahhh I am home. LOL. The doorman greeted us with a smile and immediately set to getting us settled at the front desk for check in as he expeditiously handled our luggage. The beautiful original wood center staircase stood proudly in the lobby with its deep mahogany tones telling the tale of the history of this beautiful location. 1. Check In: From being greeted at the front door by Dylan (pronounced Dye-lan) and his graciousness and charm to the amazing staff at the front desk who efficiently and seamlessly checked us in with knowledge and kindness. To Dylan then escorting us and our luggage up to our room and showing us the amenities of our room and graciously bowing out offering his services and help with anything we may need. 2. The Room: We booked the O'Donnell Suite. There is an old world feel to the room with its big four poster bed and a beautiful curated collection of antique furnishings in the room. The En Suite bathroom was completely updated with marble flooring and walk in shower. There were his and hers vanities and a beautiful XL bathtub. Included were fuzzy warm bathrobes and slippers. Excellent lighting in the bathroom and a seperate water closet for privacy. The amenities in the room were excellent with a tea kettle, Quality Irish Biscuits replenished every day, plenty of storage space and a lovely antique wardrobe to hang anything needed. I will admit that the wardrobe needs a little TLC as the doors to the wardrobe would stick and were hard to open and then are slightly off and a struggle to close...but the price of antiques. My ONE heavy sigh that would make this room the Chefs Kiss is the fireplace. There is a fireplace but you cant use it. There is some strange wire/cord sitting in the middle of it but it doesn't have an electric flame in it nor a gas one. I understand not allowing wood for insurance but not setting it up on natural gas? That seems strange to not attend to that detail. Also do not be taken back if the room has a slight smoky smell. Your room sits right over the Red Room and they use Peat in the fireplace down there. We LOVED the slight smell of the Peat burning. 3. Dining: Breakfast was included in our room rate. The Breakfast was a combination of Buffet and an entree menu you could order from as well. I loved their porridge and it came with Honey from their bees they have on the property, the portions off the menu were generous and very satisfying in combination of the buffet. All in all it was good. The Buffet included all the ingredients of the Full Irish, a cold section that includes smoked salmon and some charcuterie, pastries etc. But I do get a little Chefy here...My notes are that they have a carving station with a ham. First day we were there we never saw the chef on the carving station once so we didn't get to try it. The chef is supposed to also be doing eggs and pancakes and that was not happening. So disppointing. The next day the Chef was there and we tried the Ham...and it was so salty it was inedible. Had it been served with a Parsley Sauce it would have cut the saltiness and probably been good. But it was inedible as it was. Also in my Chefy notes...potatoes. Crispy Potatoes. I repeat Crispy Potatoes. That would make a lovely completion to the Breakfast Menu. Dinner: We ate in the "Pub" in front of the fireplace...so cozy and so lovely. I had the Lamb Shepherds Pie and my husband had the Fish n Chips. The food was good. The service was good. Nothing to get excited about, which at a location like this is disappointing. Chefy Notes: The Lamb Shepherds Pie...the base sauce to it is a GREAT flavor but my lamb was a bit dried out as was the potatoes baked on top. My husbands Chips were not seasoned and not crispy and though the fish tasted good, the breading was not seasoned and not that crispy. Cleanliness: It was GREAT until our last day. Weirdly. Every day before that our room was beautiful turned, tidied and restocked with tea, sweeteners and Biscuits. Our last day nobody came until around 4PM, made the bed and left...there was some remnants of something on the floor from maybe their cart or something, nothing was restocked or attended to. Checkout: Smooth and Easy. Dylan again helped us load up the car, gave us a couple of waters for the road. Made sure we had directions to our next stop. We would definitely go back over and over again.
