“Fabulous stay”

The hotel itself is stunning! The location is perfect and close to everything. The room was comfortable and lovely. The staff were friendly and helped with any questions we had. The food was great along with the drinks and the customer service was excellent.

Just checked into the clybaun hotel, rooms are very big and clean, beds are comfortable, staff are lovely, also had food in the restaurant and it was lovely!! The cocktails are so nice and the food was gorgeous. Would definitely book again ☺️

Joined family at the hotel for two nights to enjoy some local leisure at Wildlands. The rooms in the hotel are clean and comfortable. Leisure centre was nice and good facilities. Food was nice but service needs looking at. About 30/40 minutes from point of getting menu to taking orders and another hour to get food. Getting anymore service after that was a bonus. I do understand hotel staff get stretched from time to time, but it felt like there was no leadership present on either night.

“The Lesser Spotted Manager”

I had no prior expectations of this hotel. I had not seen the images that I now see on the hotel website. My wife, however, had seen the pictures prior to our arrival. We'd booked a four night stay. Our room, whilst large, and with a sea view, was not one of those in the same 'Executive' section that had been refurbished. We noted several issues within the first few hours of occupancy and on the first morning following our check-in we advised the lady at reception of these. She noted only our room number (245) and assured us the manager would contact us upon his return. That morning was Sunday. The faults were: The pedal bin in the bathroom needed to be opened by hand as the pedal did not work. Unhygienic. The kettle, residing on a table, had a very short lead and was not near a standard three pin socket. The nearest such socket had no table. So I was forced to move the table. This socket was also the only outlet in the room where I could charge our 'phones. No such charge facility near the bed. The table with the mirror was close enough to that three pin socket but as there was no stool to sit upon my wife needed to crouch whilst drying/styling. No bathroom socket to charge electric toothbrushes. No shaver socket. I fully expected to receive a contact from the manager. My expectation was not met. Looking now at the 'photo gallery on the hotel's website I see there are several hundred such images. Our style of room does appear, but way down the gallery and to be fair, looks impressive in a faux Versailles sort of style. The images are clearly well 'dressed' and indeed, show two armchairs and a stool near the mirror/table. The reality was somewhat different. In fact, the images portray the hotel in a very favourable light - a professional job indeed. However, as with images of food on the front of a frozen pack of stew I believe an honest disclaimer should be included along the lines of: "Accommodation Suggestion. Contents may not be as displayed". Whilst we had booked on a bed and Full Irish Breakfast basis each morning, greeted by the breakfast room host, we were asked for our room number and then informed we were on a Room-Only basis. We simply ignored this after the second day. The full-cooked was, on three of the four days, quite acceptable. Sausages were of the cheaper variety but acceptable. Bacon, as you'd expect in Ireland, tasty. The continental offered cereals and a selection of fruit, yoghurts and pastries. The pain au chocolat was very nice. I said hello to the two slices of processed and square shaped cheese, the one slice of ham and the two salami each day. We'd become firm friends by the fourth morning but they seemed increasingly disheveled each day. Whilst I jest, slightly, and the hotel probably do change them every day, I never saw a continental meat/cheese display that looked inviting nor anywhere near fulsome. The leisure centre appears quite trendy on the images. The reality was slightly different with some minor damage around the jacuzzi edge, a few small mosaic tiles missing in the steam room and some rough plaster near the jacuzzi on/off button. The button that required you to get out of the jacuzzi to operate. The lockers in the gents changing room were devoid of, well, 'locks'. There is currently a small building site at the rear of the hotel. On the images it is the patio area, shown with grass, pleasant paving and parasols. It is currently inaccessible whilst the two small machines first dig up the concrete then crush the same. Whilst the noise in our front bedroom was limited I would not wish to have been in a room overlooking that (ex) patio area. I'm sure it will be pleasant when the work is completed but I'd suggest you check when that may be before booking. That does of course assume the manager will speak with you.
