We had a very enjoyable overnight stay here whilst on a road trip along the Wild Atlantic Way. We stayed in a comfortable king size room overlooking the garden (a much appreciated upgrade). The staff were very welcoming and we liked the cake provided on arrival. Breakfast was lovely with a varied selection of fruit, yoghurt and pastries, and a choice of cooked options. I also had a bowl of freshly prepared porridge, which was a delight. There is a gorgeous view across the water from the dining room, and the hotel is beautifully decorated throughout. The location is close to the delightful town of Clifden with lots of nice shops, bars and restaurants.

“Perfect”

Highly recommend. Good was fantastic. Very accommodating for gluten-free diet. Staff were all very friendly. I loved Bruce the bulldog. The vibe in the bar and restaurant were just perfect. And the view of the sea is fabulous. Will be telling all my friends x

The Ardagh Hotel came highly recommended to us by some friends. Everything they said was true - it certainly is a gem. The location is perfect as it’s close enough to Clifden, to enjoy the town, and then when you want peace and quiet you can retreat to the tranquility of The Ardagh Hotel. The ambience is out of this world, beautifully decorated, with beautiful artwork, lovely comfortable couches, and arm chairs in the lounge, where you can enjoy the warmth of the fire. The room was comfortable, highly recommended that you make sure to reserve a room with a large bed, especially if you are tall people. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant has delicious meals - could be considered expensive, but worth every cent.

“Overcharging for the cocktail.”

A nice hotel BUT....don't drink at the bar! We arived quite late after a 5+ hour drive over from the south east, the kiwi receptionist was lovely and showed us to our room. As we had booked later the best view rooms were gone but no matter as the room looked over the side back garden area. Within half an hour of us beig in the room a young man knocked to come in to check the heater was working alright, why he could not do that before our arrival in the evening ?? It jus felt a bit invasive to have someone tinkering in your room as you're trying to settle in and unpack. The breakfasts are lovely and delicious, we weren't given any toast (on the first day). Get there early if you'd like a gorgeous bay view as you dine! Coud be the time of the year but the room is quite cold and while there was heating on overnight, the heater sent the heat up the window behind the curtain that covered it. The room needed a bit more heat especially in the early evening and in the mornings. We had a drink in the lounge by the fire on the second evening. The menu indicated that all cocktails were 15 Euro's each, I did reuest a gin martini instead of the menu indicated vodka one. BIG MISTAKE. as on check out I queried the 36.50 Euro's for the 2 cocktails and without too much investigation, the older man taking the money said there must have been a special ingredient used for one of the cocktails. I gulped and paid up. Given that no vodka was put into the martini (it was replaced by the reuested gin), that with possibly the tiniest bit of vermouth (the other ingredient normally used for a gin martini. and the ice that the barman used to (unnecessarily) vigorously shake and shake the concoction (which over diluted it; that martini came to a cost of 21.50 Euro's. I wouldn't mind paying for that if it was in any way worth it but it was not!! The barman needed to have pointed out to the customer the change in price to be applied. Martini's are not shaken! My partners coctail could not have been shaken either so no mistake there. I got very much the impression that the man collectig the money did not care a toss how we felt about this. This hotel is otside of Clifden town and has a car park for motorists but due to the treatment by the older man, I would look to stay elsewhere as there are many other options. The restaurant also serves evening meals but if you look up the prices, they are very expensive and there are many, many good places to dine in the town. I noted that while they encourage you to book the restaurant, its unnecessary as it was mmostly empty in the evenings.
