I stayed at the Midlands Park Hotel with my boyfriend from Thursday to Friday in the Kilpatrick Suite. Location: The location wasn’t the best for us because the suite’s windows faced directly onto the main road. During the night we could hear cars and lorries passing, which made it a little noisy. On the positive side, the hotel is very easy to find, has convenient parking, and is close to takeaways and other amenities. Atmosphere: The atmosphere was lovely. There was live music in the bar, creating a great vibe, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The hotel was busy with families but didn’t feel overcrowded. Room: The hotel itself is modern, clean-looking, and the staff were friendly and understanding. The Kilpatrick Suite was spacious with a very comfortable bed. The bathtub was nice, although it could have been a little bigger. The shower was excellent with amazing water pressure. The living room area and TVs were also great. There were just a few small issues. The toilet seat creaked slightly when you sat on it. There is also a TV beside the bathtub, but there was no remote, so I couldn’t figure out how to turn it on. Only the built-in radio seemed to work. Cleanliness: This was my biggest disappointment. I used to work as a cleaner, so I naturally notice these things straight away. For the price of the suite, I expected everything to be spotless. When we arrived, I noticed several cleanliness issues. The toilet seat was still wet, either from cleaning spray or something else, and there was a small black hair on it. There were also a few black hairs in the bathtub. The bathrobe had stains on it, and the bed sheets and pillowcases also had visible stains, which was disappointing for a four-star hotel. The suite had bath salts provided, which was a nice touch, but when we looked around we noticed that one of the containers had been left completely empty. My boyfriend noticed this while checking the room. The bed frame was dusty, and there was also a black hair under the bed covers. I understand that the bathtub may be more difficult to clean because it only has a small tap and no shower head, but for the price paid, I expected a much higher standard of cleanliness. I contacted reception, and they sent a cleaner to the room after around 25 minutes of waiting, which I appreciated. Comfort: The floor creaked slightly in a few places, as did the toilet seat, but it wasn’t a major issue. We couldn’t hear noise from other rooms, only occasionally people walking past outside the room. Service: The service was very good, and all the staff we spoke to were friendly and helpful. Breakfast: The breakfast was nice, but I expected a little more. The portions were quite small, especially for a man. One small suggestion would be to provide more milk for the tea and coffee. Four small milk pods weren’t enough for two people—we ended up needing around six. Overall: Despite the cleanliness issues, we still enjoyed many parts of our stay. The suite itself was beautiful, the shower was one of the best I’ve used, the bed was comfortable, and the staff were kind and professional. If the cleaning standards matched the quality and price of the hotel, this would have been an excellent stay.

Myself and my husband stayed in The Midland Park hotel for the first time this July. We stayed due to attending Forest Fest and found this a very accessible hotel from the train station. I decided it was best to leave the car at home and make life a little easier. Upon arrival all was amazing, the hotel looked great and the front desk lady (never got her name sorry) was great and very polite. We were given our room and we were a bit disappointed with the room as we had a view of a brick wall and were right beside the vents from what we assume were the kitchens as the smell of food and grease coming in the room wasn't great when the window was left open. I didn't feel the need to complain as it is not generally in my nature and we were note spending a whole lot of time in the room. The room was lovely and big but very dated for the price we were paying (€458.00 for a room only rate). Other than the small issues we had a pleasant stay and were excited to book again for next year. I was more than disappointed when I phoned today to book a room for 2 nights next year to find the price had been hiked for the Forest Fest weekend (€538.00 for 2 nights rooms rate only). I asked why it was significantly higher than the weekend before and weekend after Forest Fest and was told that the prices were increased due to demand, so basically it is a money making opportunity for the hotel. I was then told I would have to pay a 30% deposit when booking the room which is shocking. Why a hotel thinks it is okay to exploit people when there is a nearby event going on just shows the type of hotel I was dealing with. I just felt the need to highlight this for any future guests who think they will get a good deal with this hotel.
