The San Polo is not really a hotel, I would call-it a Guest House with a small 'reception' on the 2nd floor in a tiny, typical Venice building with lots of stairs managed by friendly people! The location is perfect for travellers arriving by train (15 minutes walk) and also close enough to the 'Ponte di Rialto' and the 'Ponte dell' Accademia', which is quite important in Venice, but you will find-it out by yourself. And: Follow the "dont's" for Venice: Don't travel with heavy lugagge. We booked the junior suite (decent price), which was on the 3rd floor, were also the breakfast is served. The room is extra spacious, with a king size bed, an extra bed and a sofa, TV etc. It has a, lets called-it 'Venetian- Chic' and was clean (for allergic people: Carpet on the floor). The bed was super comfortable (we like it more on the hard side). Also the toilet is spacious, equipped with everything you need (lots of towels available) and housekepping cleaned every day. For breakfast scrumbbeled eggs and/or a ham, salami & cheese plate is served on demand, for the sweets lovers, there is pastery and freshly made cake availble, the coffee comes from the coffeemachine. As said it is simple and you will certaily not get a 'room with a view' for that price/location in Venice, but it works perfectly for a 2-3 nights trip to Venice!

We love the San Polo and Frairi area and so this small and friendly hotel suited us really well.It's close to terrific cafes,restraunnts and shops as well as popular tourist spots.Staff were friendly and helpful and room provided all that we needed.Opening the door was a challenge at times but perhaps th a t means we should have stayed longer,to master the technique!!

“Comfortable stay”

Small and quaint little hotel in the heart of Venice. Small and quaint little hotel in the heart of Venice. Classing myself as a person with a good sense of direction Venice took that away from me and we certainly had fun finding our way through the small streets. The hotel was a great stay comfortable, clean, comfy bed and a good breakfast. Staff were friendly and attentive. Tucked away you’d be lucky to find it without Google maps, however there are signs up near the hotel. Would recommend and would be happy to stay again.

So I really wanted to give this place a better rating, but several factors came together to make our stay here not the best it could have been. First off, it is rather difficult to find and it's a bit of a walk to get to any of the big attractions in Venice from here. When we arrived, the owner was there and she started to help us as we stood there with our luggage, hot from the 20 minute walk to find the place. Then the phone rang and she spend a good ten minutes talking on the phone with someone who wanted help making a booking on Booking.com. It was very frustrating. We were there first, it was late, we wanted to get to our room and it was very hot in the very small reception area. Then she mixed up our room keys so we had to lug our luggage back and forth a few times. The rooms were nice, beds comfy. No breakfast included unless you paid extra, which I swear wasn't the case when I booked the place. But there was no arguing with her. From what I saw, it was a good thing that we ate somewhere else anyway. My room was rather noisy with some people partying to the wee hours of the morning and cigarette smoke drifting into my room from somewhere. When we went to check out, two other couples were also waiting to check out but the owner was nowhere to be found. Good thing she made us pay up front. I now see why she made us pay up front. I think that if I were to ever stay in Venice again, it would be somewhere else....
