We were greeted warmly on arrival and the service was fantastic. During our entire stay the staff were courteous and attentive. Beautiful spacious room which was maintained and cleaned daily. Good quality breakfast and plentiful. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff went out of their way to make sure everything was catered for. Would recommend without hesitation.

We had a most excellent visit at the very classy Hotel La Calcina in the Dorsoduro neighborhood of Venice this past Oct. 27-30, 2023. I could not really imagine staying anywhere else for our first Venice vacation. It is right on the water of the big Giudecca canal separating Dorsoduro and the southern Venetian island of Giudecca, hence the sun shines on you throughout the day and you get a great sunrise and sunset from your window overlooking the water, which is alive with boat traffic. There's another gorgeous interior canal directly next door, which laps all day long. And the promenade out front is not dense with human traffic; it is manageable and pleasant. We had a corner view room, with three huge door/windows flung open to catch the breeze and sounds and views, plenty of room to stretch out and a gigantic wardrobe for our clothes. Bathroom was sufficiently spacious, with a somewhat cumbersome shower-in-a-bathtub set-up, but that was charming as long as you maintained your balance. And the butt-hose instead of a bidet was an interesting if splashy touch, but appreciated. All around superb service from the hotel staff, really friendly and cooperative and multi-lingual at all times, and very hepful and appreciated when they supplied us with a to-go breakfast and coffee when we had to make a 6:30am departure. Lovely breakfast set-up and offering in a very classy dining room. And a very much appreciated arrival prosecco out on a table out front, too. As for Dorsoduro, a highly recommended neighborhood, quiet and truly serene compared to the tourist mania that is the bulk of Venice, even in late October. And the Alilaguna boat service to and from the airport could not be more convenient. The Zattere stop is right up the way from the hotel, a 3 minute walk. No rolling thru crowded streets and tourists required AT ALL. All in all highly recommended for this hotel and this neighborhood.

We stayed at this lovely boutique hotel for five nights. We had dinner there twice and lunch once. It was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. The front desk staff was enormously helpful in providing transportation suggestions, making dinner reservations for the nights we did not eat at the hotel and generally being warm and welcoming. The food was delicious with variety and vegetarian options. I highly recommend.

This characterful hotel is a cut above others we have stayed in in Italy, with a very comfortable room, bathroom & in-room facilities that exceeded expectations, and mesmerising views all day long; I loved watching the waterbuses docking, the glorious sunsets and the (not too many)local people happily going about their business. It was great to return to the hotel after the bustle of 'the other side' of the Grand Canal, and yet everywhere was so easy to access, either on foot or by boat. We thoroughly enjoyed walking through the more authentic-feeling student quarter to the west, and quickly discovered that prices along the front there were very reasonable. We even managed to eat a particularly fine pizza at Eko early one evening , despite it being March. Breakfast was fine, and reception staff helpful. I would happily return!
