Exceptional Hospitality at Grand Hotel del Mare! I stayed at Grand Hotel del Mare Resort & Spa in March while travelling for business, and I must say that even as an experienced professional in luxury travel, I was truly impressed. Under the kind and highly professional guidance of the General Manager, Dott. Alessandro Dorrucci, the hotel delivers hospitality at the highest level. Every detail reflects care, consistency, and a genuine understanding of what discerning guests appreciate. The F&B offering is excellent, and I would especially like to recognize the wonderful team at the Lounge. Ruslan and Lyudmila stand out for their warmth, professionalism, and authentic hospitality — truly above and beyond the ordinary. A special thank you as well to Nicoletta, the Spa Manager, whose knowledge and thoughtful advice made the wellness experience even more memorable. With only 65 rooms, the hotel manages to offer an impressive range of services and experiences. It feels like an entire world of possibilities thoughtfully created for guests who value quality, comfort, and true hospitality. A sincere thank you to the entire team.

“Perfect 3 day getaway”

This was a staycation for us for 3 nights. If you just want to beach it for a couple of days, this is your place. Their private beach is perfect. The hotel is perfectly maintained and immaculate. The furnishings are very dated, but must have been the pinnacle of style in the Belle Époque era.......… more

This was a staycation for us for 3 nights. If you just want to beach it for a couple of days, this is your place. Their private beach is perfect. The hotel is perfectly maintained and immaculate. The furnishings are very dated, but must have been the pinnacle of style in the Belle Époque era.......it sort of adds to the charm. The grounds are so clean! I would get up every morning around 6 to take our dog out for a stroll, and not a blade of grass was out of place. The downsides of staying here are that you need a car or must hire a service to take you into town. The restaurant at the hotel is good but expensive. You will spend twice as much here as in any restaurant in the area; the cocktails are all 25euros. This is the perfect place if you just want to relax at the beach or lie around the pool and do nothing.

To celebrate christmas, my Partner and I wanted to have a nice Christmas eve dinner at a fancy restaurant without making a hole in our pockets, and we found a small 1 michelin starred restaurant in San Remo with a budget-friendly Christmas eve menu. We booked it, and since it was a couple of hours away from home, and we haven't really explored the Liguria region of Italy yet, we decided to stay in the Area. Given it was low season, many hotels were closed, but we found this five-star hotel and spa that looked splendid in the photos—though it turned out to be a bit of a dated relic. We booked a "Prestigious Sea double room with panoramic view" directly on their website, which was not the most intiutive but offered better pricing than the usual booking engines like booking or hotel.com so I still recommend to book directly with them.The price was quite reasonable and included breakfast buffet and spa access, which later on I found out that it didn't and we had to pay it directly at the hotel. There was also 3€ tourist tax per person per night that was also to be paid at the hotel. So we drove from Provence, France to Liguria and before proceeding to the hotel, we stopped at a nice medieval village less than 15km away from the hotel, called Dolceacqua, known for the scenic bridge that was painted by Monet. Following our delightful detour, we headed to the hotel to relax. Be careful though, as the roads going to the hotel are narrow, winding and a bit confusing. The hotel was in the same property as private appartments and you had to go through the parking area of the appartments and go up to reach the round parking of the hotel. The narrow pavement leading to the entrance of the hotel and their parking made me feel like I was Driving in a multi level parking building while the color scheme and the main entrance of the hotel reminded me of a run down seaside motel mixed with a dated greek themed casino. You had to take a small elevator to get to the reception area. But before that, there is a hallway that was eclectically adorned with random stuff, from polished bronze fixtures, to african busts and huge potpourri and flower vases. The hotel common areas decor were so random but it worked, giving you a curious mix of elegance, eccentricity & weird charm of the bygones. There was even a dining hall that had Christmas decor, a statue of a horse if I could clearly remember or probably of chinese mythical creatures, as well as busts of ancient greek individuals. I swear I also saw a life sized statue of african natives, large paintings and tapestries, oriental carpets , glass/Crystal & porcelain vases, chandeliers ranging from Crystal to bronze or gold plated and other polished decor mixed with Christmas trees surrounded by shopping bags from luxury brands. We were welcomed by a receptionist for sure, but it was not an exceptional but rather an unremarkable interaction that I could barely remember it. As far as I can remember though, the welcome was as chilly as the fall weather, and there was confusion about the spa access fee which we just eventually paid. We then headed to the elevator to go to our room which was located on the 1st floor. There were 2 elevators and since it was low season, it did not really get crowded, although it was slow, probably due to its age. The room was spacious and bright, clean eventhough the furnitures have surely seen better days. Not a fan of the carpet flooring which was giving off an unmistakable 80's aroma. The bed and pillows were comfortable and there were sufficient bed side electric sockets for charging your phones. The bathroom was clean, and the toiletries were nice, but the towels needs to be replaced. There was a minibar in the room and a welcome bottle of water was provided. The best part of the room was the large balcony with outdoor seating overlooking the sea and some lion statues on the roof. After settling in and eager to unwind, we ventured to the spa. To get there, You had to pass by the main reception area, the entrance hallway, then the dining room. Glad that there weren't really any people as we were in our bathrobes as recommended by the receptionnist. The spa was quite small for such a big property in my opinion. Our interaction with the spa employees was the same with the rest of the hotel staff, cold and unfriendly vibes. The spa was well equipped though but a bit dark in my opinion amidst the ambiant lighting. Like the rest of the hotel, the spa has surely seen some better days but at least it was clean. There is also a lounge/relaxation area with free snacks and drinks which you can enjoy. The person who was refilling the snacks though didn't really smile and could use a Lesson in hospitality. We enjoyed the spa either way, and had a good night sleep. Breakfast was okay, nothing special and not very memorable, and the staff didn't really help as they were not really very welcoming and did not have a smile on their faces, probably because they had to work on a holiday? We wanted to go outside after eating, and see the views from the exterioir as well as check out the outdoor pool so we exited through the door beside the breakfast area. While reaching out to the door, one of the italian breakfast staff scolded us. We ignored him as there were other hotel guests that used it before us so we didn't understood why we were the only ones who were told off. I didn't want to bring up the race card, but I was the only asian who went through that door. The other people who used it before us and who didn't hear from this rude staff were all white europeans. He could have just told us politely, I don't understand why there was a need to raise the voice while running after us and treat us like kids. That really left a bitter taste in our mouth and left us appalled and miffed. Good thing that the views were spectacular, at least we were comforted by that. We then walked along the belvedere and explored the hotel grounds and saw that they had a small put put golf course, a ping pong table and other outdoor activities, they even have a hammock but it was too chilly to stay outside, so we headed to their main reception area instead. We also checked out their bar in front of the front desk, which was closed as it was early in the morning. There was a trolley filled with sweets and candies that were complimentary just beside the bar, definitely a nice touch especially for Younger guests. Check out was quick and no issues with our bill. The rest of our stay where we did not have to encounter any of their staff was nice. Overall, it was an ok stay, we left with a mix of some fond memories and a few raised eyebrows. It was decent but could have been better if the staff were more friendly. If you do stay here, just remember, avoid the staff, embrace the nostalgia, be prepared for some hiccups and just enjoy the views. And to the hotel management, please retrain your staff and think about future renovations. :)
