This is a hidden gem for anyone wanting to escape the hotel routine and enjoy a truly unique experience. Although not easy to find (we were lucky our cab driver knew the place and had a key to the gate), the building itself is the antithesis of a hotel. Barely visible signage on a small entrance disguises what’s inside. The owner and his daughters restored the old convent and created beautiful guest suites. He even makes sure the rooms smell of incense to remind you you’re in a convent. And it works! Upon arrival, the owner gave us a map of Como with his favorite restaurants and watering hole identified. We took him up on the recommendations, which were fabulous. After your pleasant sleep, the staff provides a lovely breakfast in the beautifully appointed dining room. Cheeses, sausages, fruit, breads, coffee, tea and eggs to order. The only downside to this lovely spot is the four flights of stairs between the door and the rooms. Historic buildings have their modern challenges. If you book, be prepared the climb the stairs with your luggage, unless you’re lucky enough to have the owner help, as we did. In fact, the owner drove us to the train station, which was much appreciated.

It was difficult to locate even when we'd found the stree, & first impressions on the outside are not good, but walk into the courtyard & it's a different aspect. The entrance is highly secure & the hallway is stunning. True, we had four flights of stairs to traverse to reach our rooms (definitely not suitable for anyone with mobility problems), but the owner helped with the cases & was extremely welcoming, giving us lots of information to enable us to find places to eat & sights to see during our short visit. Contrary to an earlier review I found the fruit to be fresh & succulent & there was plenty of choice for any appetite. The lovely Shana served us breakfast & was a friendly & capable person, ensuring we had everything we wanted each morning. My room had the window & was quite large, as was the bathroom with a roomy shower & double sink. My son & his wife had a split level room, a staircase led to the bed with a skylight overhead but the air-conditioning helped to keep it pleasant. Probably not a place to book if you wish to spend time in your room but for us, wanting to be out for all the day, it was an unusual & unforgettable experience.

It was a bit warm, and the air didn’t work too well but we opened the skylights, and it was fine. Small room and it was on 2 floors. Small bathroom. Heated towel rack. No safe. Clean. Good breakfast with egg, ham, fruit, croissant. It was charming but fun but not for anyone that needs an elevator. Be sure and look at the architecture in the room where you check in. It's gorgeous.
