The service at all staff levels was superlative! The care that the employees of the Moderna take in order to welcome and assist their clientele was unsurpassed in our eight visits to Italy over the past half century. Our room, though not large,was equipped with every modern convenience, the lighting,the bed, the storage closet and the spacious bathroom were designed for maximum comfort. The dinners served in the well appointed dining room were excellent; the breakfasts deserve a five star rating. Our six day stay in the Hotel Moderna was totally rewarding. The decor of the otherwise smart lobby and elevator landings would be mightily improved by removing horrid unattractive sculptures and dreadful artificial flower/botanical decorations.

My three basic criteria for any hotel - comfortable bed, good shower pressure and drinkable coffee - were satisfied. Our room and bathroom were well-appointed. Towels were of variable thickness, but the robes were good. Breakfast was extensive, though not as appetising as might be hoped. It's very near the train and bus stations and Piazzale Minerva, which is not a picturesque location, but it is very handy for public transport and is walking distance of most of the historic sites. Good front desk.

For my first visit to Pavia, I chose to stay at Hotel Moderno. This was a unique experience for me. Rather than walking across the pedestrianized Centro Storico, I could actually see Hotel Moderno across the Piazza. It is only a few minutes walk into the pedestrianized portion of the centro storico. My room was comfortable and as shown in photographs. The front reception staff was friendly and useful. Prima colazine was generous. As I am always looking for opportunities to improve my spoken Italian, I was given the chance to roam about a large Italian supermarket just a fgew blocks away. If I return to pvia , Hotel Moderno would be my choice for accomodation again

“Not elegant or 4-star but nice staff”

I stayed here multiple times in the early 1990’s for business. The best that can be said is that the staff are nice. Old design, apparently not upgraded much over the past 27 years. Beds not very comfortable, noisy, poor temperature control, bare bones design. Depressing to stay there more than one… more

Beds not very comfortable, noisy, poor temperature control, bare bones design. Depressing to stay there more than one or two nights. Find another place.
