“Lovely Hotel”

Highly recommend, close to castle, close to harbor to cruise the lake, easily walkable, good shopping close by, their restaurant on the water has a good menu.

We have just stayed here for three nights. The location is fantastic and we really could not fault the room we had. Reception were delightful and really looked after us. However, the breakfast/patio area was a shambles. The breakfast itself was no more than 3 star; minimal options, not stocked up enough and I am not sure what eggs were used for the scrambled eggs. The staff is the restaurant/bar area were chaotic and obviously under-staffed the first day. There is a member of staff; an older lady with short hair who we did not smile once in the three days we were there. This so let down what was actually a really good hotel. Also we feel the sunbeds should only be used for hotel guests.

The hotel has a prime spot overlooking Lake Garda. We found it relaxing and peaceful, away from the hoards of tourists that visit the town daily from other parts of Garda. The view from the boardwalk is breathtaking. Food and drink were good quality and they offered a good range for breakfast. Limited bar offerings. Pizza was good although we were disappointed they didn't serve light snacks like nachos or panini, just meals. Plenty of sunbeds overlooking the lake. It was never a problem getting one or two, whatever time of day. The rooms were clean and spacious, and could be cleaned every day if required. We stayed on the second floor. One had a lovely Juliet balcony overlooking the lake. Wonderful to wake up to. The room decor was really quite dated with a random selection of furniture - wooden wardrobes featuring the alphabet. The bathroom also needed serious attention. It wasn't really what we expected for a 4-Star hotel - especially considering the cost. And what's with Italian hotels not having a kettle on them? 🙄 Staff were always pleasant and accommodating, even when they were incredibly busy. Local restaurants offer similar food at a variety of prices. We found that those restaurants in the main town square, by the ferry pier weren't as hot on quality it food it service - just pushing tables through as quickly as possible. The food and service at La Roccia was better. There are far too many gelato stores though - many clearly owned by the same company. We regularly chose Mancini's, a local gelato maker in Sirmione since 1933. Fantastic quality ice cream - particularly the Tiramisu. Overall, a lovely stay, if a little overpriced. Maybe they can spend more of the income on redecorating!

Our room did not face the lake, so the view was not particularly special. The bathroom and toilet were clean, but not flawless: the sink tap was stiff, and the toilet seat was not properly fixed. Housekeeping was fine – fresh towels and bottled water in the minibar were provided daily. The staff were kind and helpful, and the breakfast selection was good, although it was almost always the same. In my opinion, the hotel does not offer good value for money. I understand it’s Lake Garda and Italy, but still, this is how I felt. Around the hotel, we couldn’t find a proper supermarket – and the ones we did see had very high prices. Of course, it’s a tourist hotspot, but this is one of the reasons we would not choose to stay in this town again. Even walking around can be chaotic, and most restaurants and gelato shops are clearly aimed at tourists. We saw very few locals, which to me shows that the authenticity and quality are not quite there.
