“Great location but let down by avoidable niggling problems”

We stayed in the Royal Suite which is a modestly sized room located on the 1st floor on the corner of the property. This suite has an excellent balcony which looks onto the Porto Blanco beach. This suite has an excellent balcony which looks onto the Porto Blanco beach. The Bellariva B&B e Relax is a relatively new development. The rooms are modern, clean and equipped to a high standard. Unfortunately the same cannot be said of the Air Conditioning (AC). At best this circulates the air in the room - but no cooling. This was OK during our visit as the outside air temperatures were in the mid-twenties, but guests would swelter in the room during the height of summer. The water temperature in the shower was tepid at best. We complained to the management (Claudio) several times but nothing was done. Why only tepid water in the shower when the other hot water taps in the bathroom have no problems running very hot water? Clearly something wrong with the shower thermostat. Breakfast was delivered to the room daily and set up on the balcony table. A good selection of local meats and cheeses was offered, changing slightly every day. A dish of seasonal fruit was also available together with freshly brewed coffee. As a back-up there is a coffee maker in the room, but alas no hot water kettle. We found plenty of free parking on the nearby streets, and indeed in front of the property itself. Free WiFi is available. Beware of some hidden additional charges: There is an additional (non-negotiable) daily charge for cleaning. This was not mentioned on our booking site. The property is brilliantly located and well within walking distance of Monopoli old town and nearby restaurants. Porto Rosso and Porto Blanco beaches are literally just across the road. We found communication with the property difficult: both through our booking agent and directly to the property. We had queries and requests regarding the availability of non-allergenic bedding which went unanswered. Would we return? Probably not as the room prices are somewhat high and the room, though of a high standard, is let down by the issues outlined above..
