Beautiful hotel, very scenic, ferry very close by to see other parts of the lake, room very clean, lake of sockets is a let down, food choice has a lot to be desired, very poor choice

A year on from our last visit to Lake Garda, we were once again drawn by the charms of the area for another fortnight's holiday and were delighted to once again stay in the Hotel Milano, in exactly the same room as before (304). I finished last year's review by saying "Lake Garda remains overall a stunning place for a holiday. And the Hotel Milano - which deserves to be given four and half stars if I could do so - is a very good choice to help you enjoy it." All of that remains true and unless planning to stay at the north end of the lake to explore that region, I cannot imagine choosing anywhere else because of its wonderful location, the family-run feel, and general cleanliness. Other guests have raised questions about the standard of some of the food. As before, however, there was more than enough choice, and the first-course salad options on offer are better than in 2025. Now, however, with the presence of open-air L'Appetit Bistrot in front of the hotel, I am hoping that chef Alisani can also oversee some further improvements in the main hotel dining room, particularly in terms of variety. The waiting staff were a little over-efficient at times in terms of clearing away plates and glasses from your table, but that is a very minor carp in what was overall, once again, a very enjoyable experience at what is, for me, a wonderful holiday idyll. I don't know if there are fewer ferries on the lake these days, but reaching certain destinations in time to enjoy them fully can be tricky - to get to Malcesine from Maderno, for example, so you need to consider bus options in tandem. One thing I can recommend is the Thursday lunchtime classical concert at Garda (offered as an experience by TUI) which includes a 30-40 minute performance by mezzo-soprano Ida Maria Turri - originally from Carlisle! - and pianist/husband Stefano Romani, followed a by a few nibbles and stories about the Palazzo Carlotti, where the performance takes place. The 0949 ferry from Maderno should give you enough time to walk along the promenade to the venue for an 1130 start.

Pros; This hotel is fabulous. The location is superb and owners lovely. Good choice of half board food options. The staff were lovely and the pool fab. A friendly atmosphere with great access ti the ferry and beautiful walk along the front of lake Garda. Cons: Paying for water . The machine was switched on for breakfast and dinner on the first day avd the the staff were told to switch it off. Water was £7 for a sharing bottle. i strongly disagree with this and think it is to make money when you are spending money on the hotel and bar anyway It was hot in the breakfast room and I went to take my coffee by the poolside and was told by one of the owners France this was not allowed, They were lovely people but these two things were not hospitable. On the morning we left we were up at 6am to leave at 7pm avd guests were congregating. i understand breakfast isn’t until 8am but the coffee machine could have been switched on for us. I think it is important ti remember that for the majority of guests this is their one holiday of the year they have saved for and feeling like the owner is out just for the money at times is not good.

“So disappointed”

Nice staff, clean hotel, needs up dating. Food disgusting, paid for HB but ate out because the evening meals were awful, plus you had to pay for the water at your evening meal which you didn't find out €5 untill you paid your barbell at the end of your holiday. No tea or coffee making facilities … more

Nice staff, clean hotel, needs up dating. Food disgusting, paid for HB but ate out because the evening meals were awful, plus you had to pay for the water at your evening meal which you didn't find out €5 untill you paid your barbell at the end of your holiday. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room, and just one plug socket in the room.
