“Three generations enjoyed a stay”

Three generations stayed for 3 days for hiking in the area. Warm hospitality, very comfortable; we would definitely return. Seemed to be very welcoming to families as well as couples. We would definitely stay again; we enjoyed staying at a family-run hotel.

This year (2013), with my wife we spend 2 weeks in Gran Pre. First impressions – good sign on the road so it was easy to get to. Loads of parking space and close to the entrance. Lift available, stairs easy to scale with bags and other ju nk. Room – simple but clean, all was functioning, flat screen tv, decent balcony with outdoor chair. All proper and as it should be. Bathroom – again, clean, all works, I can’t say a bad word. The ventilator in our room was fairly loud but then again – how often do you sleep in the bathroom…? (LOL:) ) Dining – good variety, all fresh and tasty – I can’t complain. Special ‘ theme’ diner once a week is a lovely touch. Small amounts of coffee for breakfast and not the best, but that doesn’t seem out of the ordinary – the entire region didn’t shine in terms of coffee. Being caffeine ad dict I know what I’m talking about. Nevertheless – a minor-minor thing. Entertaining area – haven’t used it but it was there (pool, darts no problem to throw a party!); charming bar, tv area – all there. An indoor swimming pool – nice warm water, shower, chairs, tables, etc. – I can’t say a bad word. Pool isn’t the biggest, but then again – mountains, snow, skiing, if you want to go swimming go to Greece in the summer. Sauna available (I haven’t used it, but it’s there). I don’t understand why are folks bi tching about staff – we found the whole family inconspicuous yet very friendly and helpful indeed (as was the rest of the staff). Keep it up! Price-wise- I’d say ‘normal’ more on the side of competitive; at ~80eur/head&night with breakfast, dinner and facilities it ain’t bad. Normal prices for room 2/3 of the size with breakfast alone will drain you for 45eur. For the remainder 35eur I don’t think you can get a 3 course dinner and access to pool/sauna and other stuff. Skipasses – auch! Prices have gone up, but that’s not the problem with and of Gran Pre. Location of the hotel in reference to slopes – a 10 min walk (hand on my heart); we have left our stuff in the depot so an easy stroll. Nevertheless, the village seems DEAD after sundown – pubs, restaurants, night life, well, you won’t find it there. Biggest party you can have is get a bottle of wine and some speck from the local grocery. In this respect I don’t encourage anybody willing to do anything more after skiing to visit the village. Would we recommend Gran Pre – yes, definitely! Would we visit it again – no. Why? Because Alps are a big place and we love checking out different places.

Stayed at hotel Gran Pre for three nights in a ski vacation. It's a very nice, very practical mountain hotel, good facilities, very friendly personnel. Ski room is big enough and easily reachable. Ski bus is only a few meters walk away. The girl is located a bit outside the centre of San Vigilio, but everything is easily reachable. During my stay they offered only half pension, but were ok with us eating elsewhere some evenings. Advice: if you take the ski bus, get off at the first stop and cross the valley with the cable car. It's much faster than sitting in the bus until it reaches the next cable car.
