Borgo Delle More is located in the heart of Tuscany and I thought it would be a perfect central location to tour Siena, Montepulciano and Florence. I was wrong. The facility itself is lovely and the operators were charming and helpful but the place is difficult to find in daylight and even harder after dark. I read the description improperly and failed to realize that they offer breakfast only but no lunch or dinner. Driving to the eateries in Siena or Montepulciano which we’re not distant as the crow flies was a scary proposition after dark. Attempting to navigate back to home base on unmarked rural roads by GPS while locals ride your bumper and disparage your paternity eventually lead us to leave early and find accommodations near Florence. The facilities were rustic but clean and well maintained. The unit had a full kitchen which would have allowed different visitors to buy groceries and cook their own meals. It would probably be better for visitors with children or those more conditioned to bike riding and hiking. Although my error caused me to eat a week of nonrefundable time, the cost was not exorbitant and was in no measure the fault of the owners. The facility has a swimming pool and produces its own wine and olive oil in keeping with the agritourist enterprises of the region. I console myself with the knowledge that if I had not started my trio here I would have been hard pressed to visit Montepulciano.. a truly lovely town...or to spend two days in Siena. If I were doing it again, I would have booked less time at this location and sought a room in Siena and Florence. Italy is no longer the driving paradise I enjoyed on prior trips and I would be reluctant to plan a driving trip again. After six visits I received a traffic citation in Siena for failure to have an international driving permit which I had been advised was not needed since both Italy and the US employ Roman letters and numbers and the permit is only a translation and not a license. Notwithstanding I had the option of paying 286E in five days or double that amount to request a hearing. Not much of a choice but the Municipal Police we’re friendly and charming while they issued the ticket . I opted to minimize my driving activity and to avoid the center sections of Siena, Florence and Rome to avoid further problems which stifled my desire to drive to Pisa and some of the wineries in the region
