This is one of the most unusual hotels I have ever stayed in. First the major positives - the service and the location. Michelle, the day-to-day manager is exceptional. Kind, responsive, and very helpful. She made our stay in Siena so much more comfortable and enjoyable. The hotel is a short walk from Il Campo and the Duomo as well. On the negative side - the hotel has a lot of character, perhaps a bit too much for most people. The water closet shower, where the water runs everywhere takes some getting used to, as well as the Renaissance decor in the rooms. The layout of the room was very quirky as well. If you really want to stay in a slice of the Renaissance this may just be the ticket for you, otherwise you might be better served with a more modern hotel. Please also note that the hotel doesn't have an elevator, so you will be hauling your luggage up and down stairs. There is also a fair amount of noise from the surrounding streets that is audible at night, disturbed my wife who is a light sleeper.

“Bursting with character and great location”

Loved this characterful property. The location was perfect, just north of the main piazzas and historic buildings and a short walk in any direction to a great selection of places to eat including some inexpensive hidden gems. It's a 16th century restored block that's home to a dentist and some permanent residents on lower floors, but the second floor up is the hotel accommodation. Think high ceilings, exposed brickwork and huge gnarly beams, and it's full to bursting with character pieces and quirky decor. The wardrobe looked like it might take you through to Narnia... As with any older property you need to be prepared for a couple of quirks - the stairs are a little wonky and I definitely wouldn't recommend this property for the less mobile or young children. Our penthouse was accessed from the third floor which you can reach by lift but from there it's another flight of stairs, plus there are a couple of half steps within the apartment. The only area where I thought there was room for improvement was the beds which felt a bit antique too - they squeaked with movement and all mattresses sank beautifully, but actually we all slept ok. There's no reception on site but the local host, Michelle, was lovely and really helpful and easy to reach by whatsapp). Finally, it's an old building so windows are single glazed and on the Friday and Saturday night it was noisy through to the early hours- couldn't work out where the noise was coming from but potentially the bus station area which was around the corner. Ear plugs fixed the problem easily enough but again worth being aware of.

“There are alternatives”

Difficult to review. A curates egg. The receptionist/manager Michelle was very kind - I was unwell one day and they were very kind and concerned. The hotel is not a 5Star - more of a quirky B&B. No shower, Victorian furniture, strange layout for our suite. Cant read at night- lighting is poor.
