We had a wonderfully relaxing week here (May/June school half-term holiday) with our two children aged 9 and 6. The location is perfect: on the edge of a quiet but well appointed coastal town / resort, which has a beautiful sandy beach stretching for several kilometres. The village resort itself is on the edge of a nature reserve; we didn't have a car and went everywhere on foot or by bike which you can hire at the resort. We were probably the only British people staying there - most of the guests were from Germany / Austria - but everyone (staff and guests) were extremely hospitable with English spoken freely. The facilities are great - we've stayed in more luxurious and larger hotels but this has everything you'd need and everything is provisioned to a high level of quality. We stayed in a 2 bedroom cabin which was perfect for our family - similar to a Center Paris style lodge with a small kitchenette (microwave and hob, no oven, fridge + freezer) and lounge. We didn't do much cooking but it was useful to be able to prepare a few lunches and snacks. We had a bed and breakfast rate and enjoyed the buffet at breakfast; we also ate at the hotel evening buffet a couple of times which although not as extensive as some larger hotels was very tasty. The hotel also serves snacks at lunch and pizzas all day which you can bring back to your cabin - really tasty. The pool is fantastic - huge and not too deep, perfect for our kids who could play with their inflatables and for us to be able to swim a few lengths each day. The beach is also great - spotless , fantastic for sandcastles and safe for paddling or a swim. It's a 5 minute cycle from the village resort. It's also only 5-10 mins on a bike into the town where there are many shops and restaurants - we enjoyed several evening meals there. We made two day trips into Venice: once on an organised tour, and once by ourselves by train (it's a 20 minute taxi to the nearest station). For the tours, it's worth checking in advance which ones will be running during your stay, as when we arrived we found they were only available for a couple of days during our week. Our trip included entering the city by boat which was a great experience, with fabulous views. However we probably enjoyed our independent travel just as much - the trains were easy to use and take you right into the centre of Venice. Venice itself was incredible - easy to navigate on foot and not too large, with marvels around every corner. Our children especially enjoyed a mask-painting workshop (bookable online) and a ride on a gondola. Both were not cheap but highly memorable. It wasn't as over-run with people as we'd been led to expect (although we are used to London crowds!) - avoiding St Mark's Sq we found quieter backstreets and canals. That said, we were visiting in late May so it's probably more crowded in July / August. We also visited a local zoo for a morning (15 minutes by car from the resort), played mini-golf at the local sports centre (5 mins by bike from the resort) - and generally had a lot of relaxation time! Overall, a great place to stay and we were delighted to have discovered it.
