The hotel is charming and the staff attentive. We were leaving early for a tour and wouldn’t have time to eat breakfast, and they packed us a to go breakfast, which was perfect. We got a taxi from Marco Polo to Piazzole Roma, and it was a two minute walk from there to the hotel. Then, when we left, it’s a ten minute walk to the train station, with only one bridge to cross (although it’s a big one!).

Our stay at Palazzo Marcello Hotel Al Sole was fantastic. The hotel is a beautiful 15th-century palazzo set along a quiet canal, offering a true Venetian feel from the moment you arrive. It’s perfectly located, far enough away from the crowded, tourist-heavy areas to feel peaceful, yet close enough to easily walk to the train station and explore the city. It really gave us the best of both worlds. The breakfast each morning was excellent, and the staff were consistently friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay. If you’re looking for an authentic Venice experience without being surrounded by the busiest tourist spots, this is a perfect choice.

Our room was very comfortable, spacious, and had a lovely view. In addition, the reception staff was very polite and helpful. However, our breakfast experience was unfortunately highly disappointing. ​As vegetarians, our options were already quite limited. When we looked for bread to go with the cheese, we found that the bread and pancakes were stale, seemingly left over from the previous day. The boiled eggs were cold, so my 5-year-old daughter refused to eat them. The only warm option available was the croissants, so my husband and I had to fill up on just croissants and coffee. ​Because our daughter ate absolutely nothing during breakfast—spending her time playing with the birds in the garden instead—I put one apple and two croissants into my bag for her to eat later. Seeing this, the breakfast staff member stopped us and warned us in a very harsh tone. Throughout the entire breakfast, this staff member kept staring at us with a hostile and disturbed attitude, simply because we were eating croissants due to the lack of other fresh options. ​Getting treated this way at a breakfast we fully paid for, just because we couldn't find anything else to eat, was deeply upsetting and ruined our mood. We are about to set off on a 12-hour journey with connecting flights as we leave Italy, and my daughter is leaving with an empty stomach. This behavior was completely unacceptable.

“Great location”

The customer service is excellent. The breakfast buffet fantastic! The location is really good. The rooms are historic… but the carpeting is pretty nasty and the one cover is kind of questionable. The mattresses are very firm (too much so for us)
