“Convenient location, decent service, but hotel needs an upgrade”

Convenient location above Nagoya station, connected to Takashimaya and JR Towers mall, with many shopping and dining options. Service was overall good other than some check in issues where I had to argue a fair bit to get my Marriott Bonvoy status benefits. Breakfast was not fantastic but quite adequate. But the hotel felt somewhat soul-less, and rooms were tired and 90’s style. If I stay here again, it would be only because of the location.

We stayed at this property twice, either side of a trip touring Japan. The first time in a twin room (beds pushed together) and the second in a King, which we believed to be an upgrade. The twin room was fine; comfortable, clean and spacious enough for our brief time spent in it. The king however was comically small. You had to climb over the bed to get to the window side. Perhaps we were just unlucky. The room attendants and front reception staff were friendly and attentive. The hotel itself is a big, business type hotel above the train station. The convenience of this location can not be underestimated. It was very simple to catch our trains and if you didn't want to go far in the evening, there were plenty of resturant options in the complex, particularly the adajacent tower. The standout of the hotel itself however was the top floor sky lounge area. The views are spectacular and the prices very reasonable. Not to miss. The restaurants we tried in the complex were fantastic too and such a variety. If you are passing through Nagoya, this hotel is a solid transit option or base.

I’m not much of a fan of Marriott. The reason we choose Marriott is because the location is just too good for what we need in Nagoya. It has signs that lead to Shinkansen and takes 5-10min. walk to it from hotel. All the train stations are here should you wish to venture out. The hotel also leads to Takashimaya, GU, Uniqlo, Tokyu Hands, convenient stall, pharma etc basically all you need without walking out of the hotel building. Paid ~ USD 2,800 for 4 nights here Club access room is reasonable as this is F1 period. Despite the hotel being fully booked out, housekeeping are fast, efficient and easy to call to clean the room. They also have turn down service daily by 5:30pm. Room is not much bigger than a standard room and TV channels really need to upgrade. The only English channel is CNA and no International movies channel. Breakfast is typical 4 star hotel selection and quality. Club lounge only serves Japanese bento which is the same throughout the 4 days I’m here. Lounge looks great with tea time 3-5pm, then 530pm-8pm happy hour but the alcohol you can access starting 12pm. So you don’t have to wait till happy hour time. However, their Chardonnay is very poor. Sake is average, champagne taste more like beer. I wish they change their alcohol selection or only serves quality alcohol starting 5:30pm. Having said that, hot food selection 5:30-8pm are good! Gym is 24hrs but you’ve to cross over to another building past the reception. Gym is rather poorly equipped considering catering to so many guest. 5 running new treadmills but only 2 sets of adjustable dumbbells. Restroomm Is frustrating. You’ve to go down 3 levels to access the restroom. Otherwise you have to remove your shoes to the restroom (which only opens at 7am). Indoor Swimming pool 20m only have 3 lanes, usually empty at 7am. You can use it for free if you’re club lounge guest, otherwise will need to pay a fee. The sauna and onsen are basic, nothing to shout about. They forbid you wearing bathrobe to cross over from reception. So you’ve to bring your swim wear in your bag and head over. Overall is a good hotel considering the location, many hotels with great location has little incentives to try hard. So is not too bad!
