During a cold winter, what's the most you want out of a hotel ? For me, it is a nice warm bath and that's what this small, unassuming hotel tucked off the main street has to offer !! Head for exit 8 from the Sakae station if you need the elevator. Else, exit 7, which has a 24 hours Don Q next to it would be 50 metres nearer. Pass two "shingo" (traffic lights), turn left and at a quiet street and noisy Sakae, you'll find this small hotel. There are standard pillows in the room but at the lobby, one can select for another pillow free of charge so, be it soft, semi-hard, hard etc, you decide and then, bring to yoir room with the choice of free toiletries as well. There's also free coffee available and if that's not good enough, across the street, there a Family Mart to go to. The room size is the standard small Japanese size as expected. The experience I enjoyed most was the public bath ("ofuro") at the 12th floor. It is just a small one but adequate and was good enough to ease away the aches of a cold, winter walks. Whilst there are many hotels in Japan with "ofuro" or "onsen" but at this price, it is a steal. Plus, just being 400 metres from the "eki" ) train station with plenty of choices to shop and eat, one couldn't find any fault with the hotel at all.

The location is unbeatable, especially if you’re keen on nightlife in the Nishiki area. It’s also walking distance to Oasis 21, Nagoya Tower, Sunshine Sakae, and two subway stops from Nagoya Castle park. Surrounding streets are crowded, and a little rowdy after 9. But once inside the hotel, it’s peaceful. (I didn’t encounter anything returning late too) Room is also well equipped. There’s even a sort of free-use navigation smart phone, with places recommendations. Although I did not manage to figure out how to use it. The rooftop onsen is wonderful! The onsen itself isn’t large, but the rest area is well equipped., with vending machines, free water, and free massage chairs. It even comes with free popsicles, something I’ve not encountered elsewhere. And oh, the rooftop view of Nagoya from the rest area is lovely. Goes down very well with a popsicle after a hot steamy soak.

Twin bed room is much better than the normal double bed room. Onsen bath free for all in-house guests is a bonus. Breakfast was included in our rate but the traditional Japanese set with fish as the main course is not my style, because the smell of the tiny fish is so strong. You can get a normal toast + egg with coffee breakfast right next to the hotel. Service was decent and the cleaning of the room was perfect.

Turns out this Hotel is called Sanco Inn, not sure if Trip advisor will update it. Good: - Price for what you get - New Clean and Comfortable hotel, reasonably close to station (though there are many others that are closer), but still fairly accessible to Nagoya station via two different subway lines, - Has a hot pool for taking a traditional Japanese skinny dip at the end of your day. Bad: The Men's pool is heavily used as this is a business hotel, hence the water smells of balls. The Women's pool I am told is perfectly fine.
