I just spent a week in this hotel. Having read the reviews here beforehand I felt compelled to come back and stand up for this place. The rooms have been refurbished. They are still small of course and without wardrobe...but many cheap Japanese hotels are this way. The cost at the Plaza was something like 6000 JPY per night with free internet. The sauna and bathroom are also free - very nice for refreshing in the morning and evening (still just for guys though). Some of the people on reception speak good English, and they were always nice and helpful; it is typical Japanese service. The location is within walking distance of Mikawa Toyota station, and only a few hundred meters from Toyota head office. There is a restaurant on the ground floor which offers a simple choice of Japanese or Western breakfast, and in the evening they do some good izakaya type food. There is a nice Korean restaurant close by also. Frankly, I prefer this to the other hotels in Toyota where I have stayed before such as the Castle, Meitetsu, and Center Hotel. The rooms at the Castle and Meitetsu are larger but at twice the price... the Center Hotel which is a budget one in the city center is lower quality in more humble opinion.

direct in front of the Toyota Headquarter this Hotels looks promising to be an International Guesthouse. Unfortunately the English language skills of the employees are worse than expected and the menu in the Restaurant are only in Japanese available. The breakfast “western style” was far away from was a European Citizen would expect under this name. Rooms are small and the bad rooms looks like in a P&O Ferry….

We had booked the Toyota Plant tour and decided we didn't want to "commute" from Nagoya so we decided to stay in Toyota. And since the Plaza Hotel is basically right across the street from Toyota HQ, we decided to stay there. We caught the rail to Mikawa-Toyota station and walked about 10-15 minutes to the hotel. We had to stop a few times to make sure we were going in the right direction as it was already dark and raining too. We made it to the hotel just fine and checked in. Check in was quick but when we got to our room, we didn't know how to turn the light one. I quickly surmised that the orange "stick" attached to the room key needed to be inserted into the slot near the the door, sort of like having to put your magnetic card room key into the slot at other hotels in Japan. We called my in-laws in a room downstairs to see if they had figured that out. They hadn't, and had been sitting in the dark for a couple of minutes. Their room was also quite warm and stuff. We couldn't figure out the AC so my mother-in-law called the front desk. Luckily, she speaks Japanese so she could explain to the non-English speaking front desk employee what the problem was. He quickly came up to their room and after some speaking to my mother-in-law, it seemed that the AC wasn't an AC after all and just a heater. If they wanted to cool the room, they would have to open the windows. He showed us how open the window (not easy to do) and that let some cool air in (but also some bugs later at night). Long story short, the room was on the smaller size but good enough for a quick overnight stay. We had the double room but I looked in one of the single rooms while the housekeeper was cleaning and it looked quite small. Free wifi, as with all of the Japan hotels we stayed at. The bathroom was VERY, VERY small though so if you're claustrophobic, you'd want to leave the door open. We were on the ninth floor, which is the top floor, so we had some decent views of Toyota HQ and the surrounding neighborhood. The room included free breakfast, either Japanese or Western and you tell them which one you want while checking in and they'll give you a ticket to take to breakfast. The breakfast was decent and filling enough. Check out was easy and the front desk held our bags for us while we were on the plant tour.
