This is a tourist hotel, but a good one located in beautiful surroundings outside and above the town. The rooms are spacious, conmfortable and relaxing. Plenty of space for hotel guests on the ground floor. We were here for three restful nights which was the time we required to learn our way around the different wings. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

This hotel is a little out from the heart of town but, provides a daily shuttle bus to and from JR Takayama Station which runs regularly from early morning up till 21:15pm The hot springs consist of private and public baths, inside and open air with spectacular mountain views, obviously the major attraction of the hotel. This is a very peaceful relaxing hotel with spacious rooms which are kept immaculately clean. Breakfast was varied both western and Japanese and to a high quality, I certainly felt rejuvenated after two nights here and would recommend this hotel.

We have stayed here for 1 night during our 12 day trip with Gate1 Travel/Discovery Small Groups and we thought it was a very nice hotel. Takayama is not Tokyo/Kyoto as it's in the mountains and the hotel is a bit further away from it all - although there is nothing here within walking distance, the views however are very pleasant - both from the rooms as well as the restaurant. There is also a pretty big souvenir store with a very nice selection and reasonable prices available on the first floor. Private Onsen was a huge plus (there are 3 types to choose from - see the pictures for them from the hotel brochure) as due to my tattoos I was not allowed to go to a regular Onsen (the hotel has both), and just to emphasize how big of a bonus that is, the hotel we stayed literally a day prior in Kaga did not offer private ones so needless to say I had to skip that experience there - and trust me this is a must. The cost for the private one was just $31 USD for 2 people, so it's nothing! You need to book it with the front desk though as it's scheduled in 1h incrementals, with 45m being allowed for the actual water (ours was at 8PM so we needed to leave it at 8:45 so it could be ready for the 9PM and so on). The room was spacious and good quality beds/blankets. The key to the room appears oldschool but don't be deceived, it actually has a chip inside used at the Onsen/check out etc. so make sure not to lose it/wet it :) Dinner and breakfast were great, plenty to choose from and probably best quality pastries during our visit to Japan from the hotels. The only minus was the lack of an espresso machine but the regular coffee was good enough with the dairy milk provided separately.
