“Nice 1st Takayama stay with very lucky to stay here”

Very nice hotel, nice room, even we booked 4 rooms with 1 double bed and 2 futon but staff very nice to set 4 futons for our experience. The staffs are very very nice from check in, explain everything, til check out. Recommended hotel!!!!!

“High levels of service and cosy rooms”

This was posh. Very lovely ryokan with so many staff and a high level of service. Rooms are lovely, warm, and clean. Service is exemplary. This was posh. Very lovely ryokan with so many staff and a high level of service. Rooms are lovely, warm, and clean. Service is exemplary. Lots of details make the stay special and give you little peeks into Japanese delights. Breakfasts are generous. Japanese breakfasts are excellent. Lovely buffet of juices, cereal and other foods also included. Nice onsens. It is expensive to say, relatively, but it is a lovely decadent experience.

“Special room with family of four”

My family of 4 (2 adults and 2 teens) stayed here for 2 nights. Our overall experience was good, but I don't think I would choose it again in light of the price. The common areas of the hotel were very pretty and it was nice to try the hot spring experience. The breakfast was nice. We reserved the "special room," which was more spacious with two separate sleeping areas--one of which had permanent bedding on the floor, and the other which was a tatami mat living room where they would set up the futons at night and put them away for the day. It was interesting, but maybe Japanese style is not for us because we found it a little inconvenient not to have a nice comfortable place for all of us to sit. The bathroom area was rather small for 4 people to share, and also pretty outdated. The location was good--near the train station, restaurants, and attractions. I have to admit that we did not utilize one of the services we paid for with the room, which would be to get made up in yukata to go out on the town. Walking around town, we saw very few people in yukata and I think we felt we would look out of place.

Stayed at Oyado Koto no Yume, to see what the ryokan fuss is all about. It’s a moderate sized hotel, but we saw no Japanese tourists over the course of our two-night stay. Just foreigners milling about, wearing yukatas most of the time. So, if you go in there expecting luxury you might be disappointed (as some people seem to have been); instead, the high prices you’re paying are for a chance to dress up and play at being Japanese. The aesthetic is nice and the location convenient. The staff is polite, as others have pointed out. But the hotel does have a huge number of rules and regulations, as also has been pointed out. Over multiple trips to Japan, this was the only place where we were asked to bring down our bags the day before we checked out so that the bags could be measured for shipping to the next hotel. The ostensible reason was that it would be very crowded next day at check-out time. But when we came down with our bags the next morning, there was nobody else checking out.
