万座温泉 日進舘 Staying in Manza onsen for two nights, and found out rather quiet during the day. We tried to make a trip to other onsen hotels, but taxis or public buses were unavailable, and walking was not an option because of the snow and icy roads. We were stuck in the hotel, with nowhere to go, and surprisingly, the reception staff were unwilling to help. It was a rather disappointing experience for us. Luckily, we met Mr. Honda outside the hotel, unsure of his position with this hotel, and he offered to drive us to the Manza Kogen Hotel. We were so grateful. However, upon arrival, we discovered the Hotel was closed for the day. Mr Honda later suggested Juraku hotel also in the neighbourhood. We were very thankful for the recommendation and had an enjoyable onsen moment in Juraku. Mr Honda later even returned to pick us up. Thank you very much! Your kindness and generosity are much appreciated.

“Never have I felt so Japanese.”

I was taken here by two Japanese friends who drove me up through the nearly impenetrable mist. Incredible scenery when you could see. I was taken here by two Japanese friends who drove me up through the nearly impenetrable mist. Incredible scenery when you could see. The building was huge and probably hasn't changed a bit since 1974. Our room was very basic but warm and cosy. The baths are incredible. The milky water does feel wonderful on your skin and all the baths are I need wonderful wooden buildings with great views. The buffet hall felt like school camp with much better food and what an eye opener it was seeing the bus loads of senior citizens and office workers getting stuck into their niku jaga. There are many foreign staff so you should be able to cope without Japanese. You should give it a try as this is so outside the regular tourist experience. Having a morning outside bath overlooking the mountains is something you'll never forget.

“THE balcony spa, the snow capped mountains and the buffet 5*”

WOW what a great place to be - serene, hot natural spas - you soon forget your nakedness (although women and men are separate) - I cannot describe the beauty of the environment, the journey there, the room, view, food - quite remarkable!

Second trip to this wonderful hotel. This time was a group of us going there for our Yoga & Dance Retreat. We stayed for two nights. The staff were very helpful and provided us with a room for our yoga and dance lessons. Peaceful and quiet, just the place for our retreat. Fantastic hot spring bath after our yoga lessons with plenty of onsen pools.
