Our room in Risonare was the largest I have ever stayed in Japan. It contained a separate living room, toilet with jacuzzi bathtub with a view and a built in sauna. The furnishings are a little dated and there are no drinks in the room. However, there is a nice cosy book room on the ground floor that served drinks round the clock. Hot chocolate, wine, juice, tea with some little snacks that run out quickly. I had a massage at the spa and found it wonderfully relaxing. The greatest problem we faced was difficulty in booking restaurants in Risonare itself for dinner and breakfast. We managed to book one meal atSora and Agi despite the 4 nights and 5 days we were there. We asked the staff to help us reserve at Check in! The meals at Sora and Agi was excellent. I really enjoyed the experience and wished we could hv booked more meals there. For the other meals, we walked along the corridors to the shared restaurants Forest, Mikaku, those on Hotaru st and at the mall. They were good too. Please dress warmly as the corridors are cold during winter. I appreciate the staff at Risonare as they seem conscientious in trying to help us. Our toilet could not flush and they arranged the repair on the same day and it was fixed. Also, our ski boots bag was lost in transit after Check in to our room (we checked in before 3pm and left our bags with them and went skiing). The staff searched for our lost ski boots bag until they finally found it at lost and found. All in all, we enjoyed our stay there and would stay there again.

I have been thinking of going to Tomamu Risonare resport for many years, but did not realized until now. The rooms at the Tower of the resort is fully booked even for September, which is by no means a high season. Risonare has better and larger rooms, and priced higher than the Tower. I booked a suite at Risonare, which is quite big by any Japan standard. The room is not renovated and feels a bit dated. However, the room has a sauna room and a jacuzzi bathtub facing the mountain. Windows are facing three sides. The carpet reflected the years of history of the hotel. The air conditioning in the room seems not working well, when I turned it off, it is still functioning, making it very noisy when you are sleeping. The resort which is a huge project, occupied a large area and quite spread out. You can either take the shuttle bus operated by the resort running between the destinations in the resort. Alternately you can walk through the tunnels connecting the restaurants and other parts of the resort. There are quite a few restaurants inside the resort, some are congregated in the Hotalu Street, others are scattered around the resort. The food quality of food in the resort is average in general. But some are quite worth the try, such as Tukino cafe bar. Other activities include horse riding, golf cart, fishing, and of course skiing in the winter. Observing the sea of cloud at the mountain top in the early morning is a hit and miss opportunity. You have to get up at 3am and catch the first batch of cable car to get to the mountain top. But the hardship does not always pay off. All I saw was a foggy mountain. There is also an indoor man-made beach in the resort which is very popular with the family with kids. The beach also comes with hot spring inside the complex. After all, the resort is full of activities which you need to spend at least two nights stay. The price of room is generally higher than an average hotel. But it is a nice resort to spend a few days.
