Lovely, lovely experience! Calming vibe. Peaceful. Go with the intent of just chilling out. Best crabs I have EVER tasted! Food presented beautifully, fresh and tasteful. Requested service in our room due to concern with another patron and received this request with no problems. A headache for them, but they completed it without a concern! The Nepal (I believe) young lady who almost acted as our own personal butler and server was personable, professional and a true delight.. from personalized checkin, food service and concierge service, she did it all! She may have been their dedicated English speaker, as the majority of the staff appear fluent only in Japanese…able to communicate, but not comfortably. The property is gorgeous! Quintessential old world Japanese. The lobby area is huge, and the interior hall to rooms is lovely. Our humongous 3 section room/suite overlooked the Japanese gardens and was so tranquil that we wished we could have stayed MUCH longer. Beautiful selection of Yukatas and shoes for wearing around town, and another Yukata (with wearing instructions) to wear in your room. They have this cute rattan stand to assist with putting on the Japanese shoes (a tribute to them thinking of everything). (I tried desperately to buy one on Amazon to help with elderly balance… but was rejected 4 times for delivery to the U.S.A. from Japan Amazon Shipping). We utilized every bath they had, men, women and private. All perfect- (although one of the private baths is nothing more than a large tub). The property is almost at the end of this quaint little town, but the town is beautifully walkable and tiny. After one walk through, (which could easily be walked in, at most, a slow 30 minutes if you didn’t stop) you are fully acquainted with the town. We were there in late October, and many areas were closed as it was slow season but this contributed to the charm. Our first choice Ryokan did not have availability for our stay, but I cannot imagine how it could have been any better! Just get off the train, catch the bus delivering folks to their selected stays, tell them ‘Mikiya’ and relax. After other guest drop offs, you’ll be met at the entrance (as long as they have been advised of your arrival time) with a warm and welcoming introduction to this fantastic, memorable Ryokan!

Our first visit to Kinosaki Japan on 3 November 2019 was one of the most memorable one that i did by far when it comes to onsen town. This little onsen town is rustic yet vibrant, is traditional yet allows travelers who bear tattoos to enter the onsens. In the day, the streets are busy with tourists exploring the eateries and shops of their offering; by night the town is transformed with tourists donning the yukatas, visiting all the onsens that the town is so famous for. We stayed in a local ryokan - Mikiya. I will highly recommend for anyone who visit Kinosaki to stay in this ryokan. The staff are very friendly, very attentive to all your needs. We booked a room with breakfast & dinner; the food was remarkable both in taste and presentation ( I won’t say much but you can just refer to my pictures and that can describe all). The room is spacious, comfortable and very well maintained. The view is gorgeous. As they have very limited rooms so please book in advance. I want to specially thank Sarah, Daisuke, Yuki and everyone in Mikiya a huge thank you for the wonderful hospitality that made this trip so memorable for us - we will definitely visit again! See you all soon!!! 😍

We've stayed in many ryokans over the years of visiting Japan, from mid range to luxurious ones. Not many make an impression like Mikiya did. Absolute stunner the moment you walk in, with a beautiful zen garden. There's a small shop selling pottery and ceramics from kilns in the area. I went home with a few items. Our room was spacious and had a great view to the garden. The inn must have underwent a renovation recently because our room was in tip top condition and well appointed. Most ryokans, even luxurious ones, show some age in the rooms but this was spotless. Meals were great. We had one of our best ryokan meals of our 16 days trip - a light but umami hotpot of seasonal crab which we finished to the last drop. Onsen was clean and enjoyable. The public onsens are good for the experience, but the ones in the ryokan allows a relaxed pace without the jostling for space. The only miss would be the private onsen. We went in to check it out but it had a musty smell, and looked older than the other parts of the hotel. It's certainly not the cheapest accommodation around, but for what you get it's great value. Very recommended. We regretted staying just one night.

We like to stay in a ryokan at least for a night whenever we travel to Japan. This time we had the chance to stay at 2 ryokans while traveling in kinosaki Onsen. Mikiya is certainly one of the best ones we have been to. The moment you step inside the hospitality and warm personality of the staff just warms u up. It is traditional but modern in a sense. There is a moderinish lobby where u can look to a calm Japanese garden and its equipped with a modern coffee machine where u can enjoy a nice book or just the view. The room we stayed in was large and had a separate dressing area. The futons were one of the comfiest ever. The gender separted baths were modern and well equipped. I think they were recently renovated. We love it. There is also a family private bath which was older but served its purpose as well. Meals were served in the dining room and each group of guests had their own private section. The futons were made up while u are having dinner. Dinner was simple sublime. We had the best crab here. Breakfast was good too. I guess u can be traditional yet modern and I think mikiya manages that really well. It isn't a place where you feel very worried about breaking this custom and that like how some ryokans make u feel. It combines the traditional aspects of a ryokan where tourists come to experience yet delivers an experience a modern small luxury hotel can deliver. Great experience and highly recommended!
