Staying here almost feels like a privilege. A lovely lobby, nice (if cozy) rooms with a great view of the river, nice residential neighborhood, excellent Japanese breakfast, attentive and helpful staff. If we end up in Kanazawa again, that would be our first choice. One caveat - if you have mobility issues, you should perhaps consider other options. The hotel is within easy walking distance from everywhere (the old Kanazawa is not that large anyway), but you do need to walk or take a taxi to get there. The nearest bus stop is about seven minutes away, the museum of modern art, the Kenroku garden and the castle park are a twenty minute walk. Wasn't a problem for my wife and I, but we are fairly active. In fact we sent our bags to our next hotel and walked all the way back to the train station our last day in Kanazawa, with stops at D.T. Suzuki museum, the fish market (oysters!!!), etc.

Once you arrive, you would be impressed by the charming little hotel by the river. It is renewed from a old house, into a chic, minimalistic, cozy hotel. It has only 8 rooms, so you are greeted and taken care of personally by Yuki and his team. The rooms are nicely furnished, the beddings are exceptionally comfortable (because they are brand new). Be sure to reserve time for Yuki san's breakfast. He used to be a professional cook, and he design simple japanese breakfast that is both tasty, healthy and pretty. The ground floor cafe and reception area is stunning beautiful. Take your time to relax because the huge glass windows of the cafe can see the river day and night. Take time to read a book, drink some tea or coffee made by Yuki san. I love the river, so each morning, I either ride the bike (booked from the hotel) or jog. There is a 7km stretch of riverside lanes for exercise. I love it. The location has its pros and cons. Yes, it is a bit far away from Kanazawa JR station, but take a taxi and 2000 yen you arrive. make sure to give the address to the taxi driver. You can also do bus, with a bit of walking. I arrive from komatsu airport, take the limosine bus to Kanazawa downtown (which costs may be 1130 yen) to Kanazawa JR station or Korinbo (the shopping area nearby), then change with Taxi or bus. The airprt bus takes 45 minute, then extra 15 minute by Taxi. So, if you book this hotel, you can enjoy the quietness and serenity of the river (you wake up every morning seeing the pretty river!) you can see local people walking dogs jogging by the river, with huge green lawn stretch like carpet. You have to see by yourself. One piece of advice is, the cheapest room (standard single room) is a bit too small even for one person, I would advice booking the standard twin room even if you are one person, especially if you stay for a few days. Afterall, the room rates are really reasonable compare to other hotels in the area. Yes, the area may be not very near to a lot of restaurant, but there are a couple of cozy nice restaurant to have dinner in. and with no other tourists. Be adventurous. If you like quiet, peace of mind, avoiding the crowd, and don't mind walking a bit more, this is your choice.

“small for a couple, good for a solo traveller”

The location is wonderful, the staff are lovely, the hotel is well appointed but the rooms are tiny and the bathrooms are the tiniest I have experienced in Japan.
