You can't beat the location (though keep in mind that there are two Toyoko Inns close to the station, this one is close to the western exit!) Having stayed with this brand once before and after in different locations, I can safely say that this specific one is consistent with what one can expect with Toyoko Inn. Having had several properties in the same price range as this one on the dates I looked, the free breakfast buffet was the deal breaker for me especially as I was doing a Shinkansen haul from Kagoshima to Hakodate! Was booked in a twin room which was the lowest available category for the dates I booked, though I was glad to have the extra pillow! I ended up in a room that faced the railroad tracks for the local trains which is a nice touch for those who would like to do some trainspotting from the comfort of their room yet with good enough soundproofing (at least it seemed so for my floor) for when you want to sleep. Amenities like sleepwear, toothbrushes, razors, etc. are found in the lobby so do keep that in mind before you head to your room after you check-in! Front desk staff were a pleasure to work with as always, especially when it came to storing my luggage after arriving in Kagoshima well before the check-in time. For those unfamiliar with Toyoko Inn, the automated kiosks in the front desk allow you to check-in/out in English. Can safely say the FamilyMarts that Diego C. has mentioned are still there for those who need to make quick conbini/convenience store trips!

It is almost the same as other business hotels, and the rooms and bathrooms are basically clean, but the bathrooms are especially small, and some of the facilities are outdated. You can be served breakfast in the lobby on the first floor, depending on your accommodation plan. There seems to be enough tables and chairs, but due to the large number of rooms, especially on holidays when the rooms are almost full, it may be too crowded to eat breakfast. However, there are cafes and convenience stores around the hotel that open early in the morning, so you won't have any trouble finding food. The hotel can be used as a good base for sightseeing in Kagoshima.

Stayed 4 nights. Great location; within a few minutes’ walk of Kagoshima-Chūō Station (the city’s main transportation hub and the southern terminus of Japan’s Shinkansen network). Both of the local tourist loop bus services - the Kagoshima City View Bus and the Machi-meguri Bus - serve the station, making this a convenient place to stay for tourists. Two Family Mart convenience stores within an easy walk of the front door, and there’s a 7-Eleven further away if things get too monotonous. The station itself has an attached shopping centre and loads of restaurants. Typical Toyoko Inn, but that’s a good thing. Decent prices (especially with my member’s discount): low end of mid-range or high end of budget depending on your standards. My room was small but well kept. Complimentary buffet breakfast from 0700 (a little late for my preference); very limited but tasty selection based on rice and Japanese side dishes. The incredibly sweet chunks of Satsuma-imo (the local variety of sweet potato) served on most days was something I always looked forward to; pity they didn’t serve it on the last morning I was there! Will stay again for the price, but most importantly for the location.

Stayed in this hotel in early November 2018. Not my first time using Toyoko Inn for my Japan and i also join the hotel member since last year when i was in Tokyo. You will get discount for your stay and earlier check in. The location was good, breakfast was simple but fullfilling. General amities was provided, but if you are going Japan in autumn and winter, please bring your own best moisturize shower soap as the hotel do not provide good shower soap, it will make your skin more drier and itch rashes. Generally, Toyoko Inn is still my first priority whenever i go Japan. Unless it is fully booked, if not i would recommend this hotel with free breakfast.
