Stayed here for 1 night with family. It is a beautiful, new hotel that offers everything you will need for a comfortable stay. There is a free shuttle that runs every 30 minutes from Kagoshimachuo Station. The pick up point is located across from the station, so you will need to walk and find the “Nangoku Kotsu Bus Terminal” which is the same building as the Solaria Nishitetetsu Hotel. Just search for either of those places and you will find the stop. To make sure of pick up times, it’s best to message the hotel first. (Equally, there is a free shuttle from the hotel back to the station). Pros: Clean, spacious room. The view we had of Sakurajima was beautiful. Onsen hot tub was special. It can get a bit crowded during the post-breakfast and post-dinner times. The gym was also spacious and had 3 treadmills, free weights, pull up bar machine, etc. Friendly staff that will help with anything you need. They helped make reservations at a restaurant for us. Good location – there is a supermarket right next to it. The mango we bought from there was delicious, the best we’ve ever had. There is an electric tram stop directly in front of the hotel that will take you to downtown area and closer to the Sakurajima ferry and the Aquarium. For the electric trams, you can pay with credit card when exiting. Cons: This wasn’t a big deal, but I asked for any plasticware or silverware to borrow for our room. They said if we bring outside food into our room that we had to sign a waiver saying hotel would not be liable for any food poisoning type of issues. First time I’ve ever heard of that from all of my travels.

We were so glad we chose this hotel for our visit to the quieter southern part of Japan. We booked it via Luxury Travel Diary as we've always had exceptional hotels via this company. But this one was super-exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the staff could not do enough for us. And the view from the room was stunning! Do choose one with a view of Sakurujima if you can - you will never tire of that view! The hotel offered a very comfortable shuttle bus from the railway station so arriving after a wonderful Shinkansen train ride was a breeze. It's close to the ferry terminal to the island - local tram from directly outside the hotel or a short taxi ride. Again, the lady at the travel desk in reception area was just so helpful with everything. The hotel has it's own hot springs/onsen and it is just so perfect to relax there after a busy day visiting the area. The only problem with this booking was that we didn't book for long enough! We would stay longer next time as this was such a perfect oasis to return to after visiting what is a wonderful area of Japan - so uncrowded and different from the big cities.

“Not worth to book Club room.”

We booked a club twin room. Wanted to upgrade prior to arrival but hotel was fully booked out. Room has lovely view but a small standard room and the blinds black out was broken, we've to improvised and used cable tie. Is the first 5 star hotel after staying here in Japan for 17 days that they do not provide bathrobe. Also the first one that doesn't have a coffee machine in the room. Gym is 24hrs, have good dumbbells but limited machines. No swimming pool but a nice touch it has an onsen which is nicely layout. Club floor is a hit and miss. Happy hour 430-7pm served mainly fried food. Alcohol selection the white wine is drinkable but sparkling wine is not great. Breakfast can only be on the club floor else we’ve to pay 4,000 Yen per pax in the main dining area. Breakfast at 8:30am is a complete zoo. They are under-staffed despite the hotel knows is fully booked out. No cups, have to use paper cups for coffee or tea. Several empty tables not cleared we’ve to clear for them. Breakfast at club floor has eggs made to order but it seems this is only open on Sunday. I didn’t see it on Saturday. Location wise is not great. You need to walk ~ 1.7km to the main interesting area. However it has a rather big supermarket just beside the hotel. Staff are all very smiley and helpful despite the chaos. If I come back to Kagoshima, I’ll stay at the main shopping area.

Pros: - beautiful new hotel with amazing views of the volcano - good onsen facilities (hot and cold baths, communal area has a foot bath) - the Flying Hog dinner course (Flame) was INCREDIBLE, better than 3 Michelin Star restaurants I have been to. Such a fantastic restaurant with a talented chef! Problems: - The hotel location is very bad. It is basically not worth it to stay here just for the terrible location. It requires a taxi drive either to the shinkansen station or the main downtown area. Meanwhile the downtown area has plenty of cheap quality hotels. As much as this is a nice modern hotel, it's not worth it for the awful location if you want to see the town. - DO NOT BOOK THE CLUB ROOM ON WEEKDAYS - they don't tell you, but the Club Lounge only serves breakfast on the weekends. So you pay extra for the Club level room to avoid the breakfast buffet fiasco on the ground floor, and then you still have to eat at the ground floor breakfast buffet which is super crowded and have to wait for a table. - The rooms do not have bathtubs. That is super weird and rare in Japan. Even like $40 a night business hotels have personal bathtubs in each room. Feel like Sheraton western private equity executives who don't understand Japan making decisions. - You don't get a yukata in your room to wear to the onsen. Again this is very common even at very cheap Japan hotels. Stupid. - They train the staff to tell you this dumb speech at check-in about how you can't wear your slippers around the hotel or something. Ok then, give us proper slippers of some kind. Our cheaper hotel in Kyoto did that.
