Very disappointed . Good location for the Venetian Glass Museum and the Hakone Trails. Staff indifferent. None of the reception staff could speak English or made any effort to help with a minor issue we had. The ac in the room was antiquated and super noisy at night. Water in the shower takes 15 minutes to drain, so you are standing continuously in dirty water, and you need to wait 20 mins before next can then wash. They come across as being super environmentally friendly and ask you to accept a complimentary beverage in exchange for the room being cleaned. Yet they make it impossible to have that beveragewith thee timings andsmalll print. All the little things could be overlooked if staff were pleasant, but they were the total opposite of what you are used to with Japanese hospitality.

Spa-like atmosphere! Very quiet and secluded area. After a 3.5-hour hike at a nearby Mount Kintoki Loop, we were looking forward to enjoy the outdoor onsen at this hotel. Not crowded so it’s like having your own private onsen. The room is very comfortable and clean. One downsize.. no expresso machine in the room. So kind of hard to start the morning with instant coffee.

During holiday, I stayed one night at the long-established Highland Hotel in Hakone. The relatively reasonable price was the deciding factor, as accommodation prices in the surrounding area were rising due to the weak yen and inbound tourism. From the tourist-filled Hakone Yumoto bus terminal, take a 15-minute bus heading for Sengokuhara and get off at the bus stop named after the hotel, where you can see a low-rise, white, Western-style hotel. When you enter the lobby, you will see a lush green lawn spreading out before you, and in the distance you can see Owakudani, with several streaks of white smoke rising up the reddish-brown mountainside, giving you a sense of the vastness of the property. The room was a Western-style room. The room overlooked the spacious lawn and the view was great. The bath was clean and modern, with separate washing areas for each person, a jacuzzi, an indoor bath, and an open-air bath. The water was gentle and slightly cloudy. We had a Western-style course meal in the restaurant, and although I was a bit worried about the manners of my 7-year-old child, we were able to dine in a kid-friendly atmosphere without having to worry too much. The food was Japanese-style French, made with local fish, vegetables and ingredients, and was quite tasty. For breakfast, you can choose between Western and Japanese food. I had the Western option, but the fresh salad and bread were also delicious. Perhaps because there are only a few rooms overall, the restaurant and baths didn't feel crowded or overwhelming, so this hotel is recommended for people who want to spend some relaxing time. ゴールデンウィークは箱根、仙石原の老舗、ハイランドホテルに一泊した。円安、インバウンドの影響か周辺の宿泊費が高騰する中、比較的良心的なお値段が決め手となった。 観光客でごったがえす箱根湯本のバスターミナルから仙石原方面のバスにのり15分、ホテルの名を冠したバス停で降りると低層の白い洋風のホテルが見える。ロビーに入ると目の前は青々とした芝生が広がっており、奥の赤茶けた山肌に白煙がいく筋か登る大涌谷が見え、敷地の広さが感じられる。 部屋はベットがある洋室。部屋からも広々とした芝生が望め、景観はよい。 お風呂は清潔感あふれるモダンな作りで、1人づつ仕切られた洗い場と、ジャグジー、内湯と露天風呂。温質は優しく、若干白く濁っている。 食事はレストランでいただく洋風コース料理で、連れてる7歳の子供のマナーにハラハラしてたけど、そんなに気を使うことなく、優しい雰囲気のなか食べる事ができた。料理は地元の魚や野菜、食材を意識した日本風フレンチ、まずまず美味しい。朝ごはんは洋食と和食から選べ、洋食を頂いたが新鮮なサラダと、パンも美味しかった。 全体的に客室数が少ないからか、レスランもお風呂も混んで大変、というイメージがなく、ゆっくりした時間を過ごしたい人におすすめのホテルでした。
