From the outside, the place doesn’t look too great, but step into one of their rooms and you’ll love their Japanese style set up! We’d love to go back and stay there again. Ryokan style place. Worth it!! Beds were low to the floor, but you can also pull out the thick floor mattress pads and sleep like the Japanese did/do. Rooms come with a Japanese robe, sandals, and hygiene items (toothbrush, brush, cotton swabs). Our room had a table and chairs (where you sit on the floor). Onsite is a Japanese bathhouse. The best thing here! Spas use mineral hot spring water!! We wore our robes and grabbed our hygiene and skincare stuff. Be ready for a traditional experience (everyone is naked). Men’s only and women’s only sections. Spas were wonderful! One was inside and the other was outside. We went late March and it was freezing, but going in the hot springs outside was amazing. Plus, it snowed! Spa is under an awning so it didn’t directly snow on us, but it snowed just outside the overhang. Beautiful!!! And while walking back to our rooms while in our Japanese robes, it snowed again! What an experience!! Buffet onsite. Food is decent. Traditional mo Japanese food. Local attractions to try: pirate ship (20 mins from one end to the other) and gondola ride. Beware: sulfur springs in the area make it smell like rotten eggs. When you get to the top of the gondola ride, get the cooked black egg! It’s cooked in the hot grounds there.

Everything was lovely. The weather was lousy so we stayed mostly at the hotel onsen, and was incredibly happy with the quality of the onsens. Dinner was a buffet with some interesting options. Breakfast was similar to other hotels, but more variety. We were a bit surprised by how Western the dining room set up was given the traditional elements elsewhere in the hotel, but can only presume this is to achieve a happy medium between the Hakone experience and expectations some Western travellers have. Loved the 300m walking trail between the hotel and the ropeway station. It was so quick and easy to take the ropeway up and down. It rained while we stayed, so no Fuji views but I imagine they’d be lovely from the garden on a good day. Bathrooms are small but functional. We used the onsen so much we never needed the shower in our room. A cute gift shop and cafe on the ground floor. Self-service coffee machine in the lobby. Only reason we don’t give the room a 5/5 rating is there was only 1 pillow each. We possibly could have asked for another, but only stayed 1 night and it was late before we realised. Beds were firm, but I liked it. The rooms are HUGE by what we’ve encountered in other Japanese hotels. The daybed beside the window is a nice spot.
