Stayed here on night 4 of our 7 day Kyushu road trip. Booked here primarily for the Kumamon themed room. Check in was easy, I'd made the mistake of just booking one person, and check staff were easily able to add an additional person for a reasonable fee. The room was of decent size, with comfortable pillows and beds, although the room and bathroom are looking very tired, in need of refurbishment, but overall comfortable enough. Food and Beverage requires some work, we went to the bar for happy hour drinks and an early light dinner, exhausted from the days driving. I'm unsure if the staff were new or some requests were lost in translation, however it seemed to be a process to actually just sit down and get a menu in the bar area, and the food was just ok, not worth what we paid. We did not use the restaurant or have breakfast. Parking is easy and located beside the hotel. Free parking was included in our room rate. While the view from the room was great, the location is not the best, although the tram line is located just one block behind the hotel. The closest convenience store is 10 minutes walk away. Overall a comfortable stay.

Had a decent, comfortable stay overall, though it’s a bit more low-key compared to big brand hotels such as Hilton and Hyatt. The location is just okay. There’s not much within a short walking distance, but Kumamoto Castle is about a mile away (around a 15-minute walk), and Kumamoto Station is also about a mile away, where you’ll find a shopping center and more food options. Stayed in a Junior Suite, which was quite spacious with a nice layout. It had two sofas, so there was plenty of room to relax. The furnishings and appliances were well-appointed, but the quality felt a step below places like Hilton or Hyatt. Still perfectly functional, just not as upscale. The bathroom was fine — not super roomy, but big enough for two people. The ceiling felt a little low. The Premier Lounge was a bit underwhelming compared to Hilton lounges. During cocktail hour, drinks were complimentary along with a set platter of about six snack items (not buffet-style). The food leaned toward local specialties, which wasn’t my favorite. Breakfast also had a strong local focus, but there were enough options that I found several dishes I enjoyed. The overall variety was pretty good, though the baked goods and coffee were just average. The staff were very friendly and helpful, which definitely made the stay more enjoyable. Also worth noting: there’s no pool. Overall, a solid and comfortable stay with a spacious room, but it doesn’t quite hit the same level as higher-end chains in terms of finishes and lounge experience.

Property location is at city central, a tram stop away from the train station and several from the main shopping streets. There is an airport limousine that drops directly beside the hotel as well. Room was upgraded to a high floor deluxe room with courtesy of IHG membership, but oh boy the room is fully showing her age. The decorations in the room are well dated into the 90s and wear and tear across are visible. There is hardly any natural light except a window, and the interior lights are orange fade which makes the retro vibes extra strong. Housekeeping likes to keep the curtains closed too which in my opinion makes the already aged room even more dull looking. Experienced it both during check in and after house keeping though I have left the room with curtains opened. Bath is of typical Japanese layout including an auto toilet and mixed shower-bath. The sink feels lower than normal however, and overall feels like a very tight bathroom. Breakfast was complimentary as diamond member and felt decent however a paying customer is priced around 3500 yen if I recall correctly which I thought it was pretty expensive given the variety and quality. Spread included both western and Japanese with the usuals, though there is effort to promote use of local Kumamoto ingredients and specialty such as horse meat. There is also a live sushi roll station though tastes average. There are no facilities in this hotel such as gym, onsen etc which I thought it was quite a pity considering the size and is supposedly a better property than average Kumamoto hotels. Within the vicinity, there is also no convenience store or restaurants which I felt it was really inconvenient compared to any Japanese hotel. Service was alright, but could feel Japanese staff are not as comfortable to speak English hence interaction are generally brief if you are not able to speak native language. Lounge access was also not provided before asked though there is access eligibility. Lounge is opened from morning till late night and offers free flow drinks including alcohol which is great if you like a drink, no bites or snacks though. Overall the property is priced above the others in the region but does not deliver the equivalent standards. Will not return in the future until there are improvements.

“April 2025”

Rooms tired-looking, small. Buffet dinner - expensive and absolutely nothing like the advert which showed lavish food. Reality showed stale looking food in a tawdry diner type of environment. The place was generally clean and the location, good. Overall this hotel overcharges and under delivers.
