We generally do not like tatami style hotels- its all that having to get on and off the floor and not easily sitting upright with legs crossed or stretched out. But we read good reviews, cost reasonable, so decided to try it for 3 nights. We enjoyed/liked the hotel, despite still having to get up and down from the floor. PROS - modern ensuite ---separate WC room with own small basin ---separate vanity basin area with shelving, hairdryer, toiletries, etc. ---separate Japanese style bath area with short soaking tub; was nice to use the wooden bucket to pour hot water over your shoulders at shower area - very clean and well maintained - the bedding was not a thin matt but a rather thick futon type, quite comfortable - relatively large room- three of us and still had space to move around when the bedding was placed with luggage also on floor - breakfast was good buffet spread at very reasonable cost - free hotel parking in front and back- must leave car keys with front desk which is very common in Japan - nice common onsen (shared) within hotel which was usually empty - very good service from staff- took time and effort to find attractions and other things for us - operable windows for outside air, good also in colder weather to keep some items/food cold by leaving on ledge near open window - has lifts! CONS - yeap, getting up and down from/to floor - no wall hooks in ensuite to hang things- this seems very common even in the western style hotels in Japan - very small "wardrobe" area- mainly just 2 pockets/niches in the wall with very short hanging rods and a few hangers - one can easily miss the hotel when driving- no signage in English at entry All in all recommended especially if you are partial to modern tatami style hotels.

“value for money!”

i liked this hotel as it was clean, and offered good value for money. There's a very good sushi place just a stone's throw away from the hotel. i booked a japanese rooms so you sleep on futons laid out on the wooden floors.

The Good: The beautiful dark wood and modern interior, cleanliness, onsen facilities and the Toraya seafood restaurant nearby, 300 metres from hotel. We had the best seafood there! Uni don with a lot a lot of very fresh uni and tuna sashimi don for only 3000 and 2500 yen!! The free toiletries are of good brand and refined. Very good service but front staff speak limited English. The Not So Good: Rooms are small and we couldn't put two luggages comfortably. Free green tea and no coffee. Wifi was good on level 5 but slow on level 6. Twenty minutes walk from Suizenji station (the nearest station) in the rain with luggage was no joke. Better take taxi - cost 660 yen only. To access the tram to go to castle and Shimotori, it's not that bad which it's about 12 minutes walk. We took half board the first day - dinner and breakfast were delicious but not wow. Suizenji park is a stone's throw away and definitely worth visiting on a good day. We left our luggage there and stayed in Takachiho for one night and returned here the second night. All in all, it was a very comfortable stay and value for money. Better if you drive or don't mind taking taxi.

“Lovely place! ”

This hotel is small but also cozy and modern. It's very affordable at about $150 per night for two with dinner and breakfast included. The onsen is very small and is indoors only, however it is seldom crowded. Overall it's a great place to stay with polite and helpful staff when in Kumamoto.

“reasonable price and giving realxing”

Managers are kind. Room is a little small, but i think it is reasonable. there is public bathroom. if you experience Asian bathroom culture, you'd better stay here. It is located near Suizenji, Japanese garden, where is far from Kumamoto airport.
