I spent three nights at the Court Hotel. It is in a convenient location about two blocks from Shijo Station, and an easy walk to downtown Kyoto, Nishiki Market and Gion. As a bit of an older building (they use an old-fashioned physical key system, and the guest needs to turn in the room key every time you leave the hotel),the rooms are quite spacious for a Japanese hotel. Despite the size of the room, there is no closet or storage space. The bed is comfortable and they provide nice, Western style pillows (as opposed to the hard flat pillows in some Japanese hotels). Very friendly staff. They also provide robes and slippers, toiletries (no body lotion), kettle and fridge.Only green tea is provided (no coffee or bottled water). While strong, the wifi is not very secure, as no password is required, in either the room or the lobby. Overall, I was very happy considering the price point, which is quite low for a major city.

Hotel is walking distance from Shijo station. We booked a triple room. It was quite spacious. However, there was limited power point, we could only use a power point in our room near the TV area. Basic amenities (soap, conditioner and towels) are provided in room, you can grab tooth brush, comb, etc at the hotel lobby. Check in at 3pm only. We arrive around 2pm and was told to come back later to check in, they allowed us to store our luggage first. We booked our rooms with breakfast included. I would not recommend it. It is the same everyday and you must tell them what time you are going for breakfast so they can prepare for you. Go to nearby convenience stores and supermarkets to grab yours and have it in the lounge at basement. They have microwave and toaster there, together with tea, coffee and drinking water. Please note that there is bottled water provided in the room. There are also washing machines and dryers in the hotel, you can pay for usage. Room service was not very good too. Bedsheets were badly made, toilet floor not cleaned properly. Staff were not very friendly and most are not very fluent in English. Welcome drink was nice though.

The best about this accommodation: the Location! A bus stop is just around the corner (1-2 min walk) and the Subway is just a 6-8 min walk away. Very convenient if you need to go to Kyoto Station. A convenience store is just across the street as well as a supermarket. The area is less busy than other parts of Kyoto (Hiagashiyama, Nikishi Market or Gion-Shijo which can be reached easily by bus!) but several restaurants and bars can be found. If you want to send postcards, a post office is just down the street! The hotel itself is good. Complimentary toiletries can be found next to the reception. Staff is very friendly and helpful at all times. Housekeeping does not clean daily but if you put the magnet on the door they will. On request we got additional towels. In the lounge downstairs breakfast is served and in the evening you can go for drinks (little selection) and even bring your own food in case you are on a budget or don’t want to go to a restaurant. The bed was not very comfortable. The double bed contains of two single mattresses. For me, the pillows were a little too stiff. The breakfast is served in a little box (on checkout day it was served on a plate) and it is always the same: a soup (changed daily), a couple slices of fruit, a little salad and three little pastries. So do not expect a buffet.

Its an OK joint to be in, do not carry very high expectations with this hotel. Rooms are small with only basics, basic to the extent that the cleaning is limited and they do not even change your sheets. If you are looking at a place to crash for the night then it will do the job but I think you can get better places for the money. Carry Multi USB charging device as they had 1 plug available. You have to pay for extending your checkout (1100 Yen per Hour) You have to pay 2400 Yen as a Kyoto Accommodation Tax which we were never advised of at the time of booking (booked via 3rd party) They do have a small cafe in the basement with very limited/basic brekky options. We went to Egg n Things & Holly's Cafe for Breakfast mostly.
