We stayed at the Hotel Intergate Kyoto Shijo Shinmachi for three nights and we had a very enjoyable stay. The location was good, within walking distance to many things, the rooms were well appointed and clean and fairly well sized for a Japanese hotel. The hotel room had a room safe, comfortable bed and linen, TV, fridge, sitting area, toiletries - everything we needed during our stay. At check in and check out too our suitcases could be safely stored in the reception area. We had breakfast each morning at the hotel - which was buffet selection with many options to choose from (beware breakfast is very busy so get there with time up your sleeve in case you need to wait a little before getting a table). The hotel was well priced and I would definitely recommend this accommodation while staying in Kyoto.

“Good hotel.”

This hotel is good enough, my only negatives would be the staff don’t seem as friendly or helpful as other stays in Japan. They were fine but it was noticeable. This hotel is good enough, my only negatives would be the staff don’t seem as friendly or helpful as other stays in Japan. They were fine but it was noticeable. Also the windows in our room were opaque with no view and we were unable to open them. I’m not sure if this is the case for all rooms. Our room was otherwise small but clean and the location of the hotel although a bit of a trek from the station was very convenient for travelling around the city. The hotel provided snacks and drinks every evening for guests which was a nice touch. Breakfast was good. I would recommend this hotel as good value.

“clean modern, still has service kinks to work out.”

we stayed here 3 nites. good: modern, clean, location good; in "central" Kyoto. close but not too close to metro (~ 5 blocks). Nishiki market (medium) and Nijo castle (medium-far) within walking distance. only Hotel in Japan of 3 where we saw vacuum used in room/hallway. HVAC controls worked w… more

we stayed here 3 nites. good: modern, clean, location good; in "central" Kyoto. close but not too close to metro (~ 5 blocks). Nishiki market (medium) and Nijo castle (medium-far) within walking distance. only Hotel in Japan of 3 where we saw vacuum used in room/hallway. HVAC controls worked well. hotel has washing machine (pay) and massage chairs (on-site) with onset available. Breakfast buffet small but more than adequate. there is also a happy hour provided which was nice not so good: room had hot water pot but no instant coffee. (free coffee machine in the lobby). the typical room amenities were not stocked in the room but in the lobby--self serve but still free. bad--front desk service was surprisingly poor, especially for Japan. we've stayed in 8 other hotels. typically the desk clerks in Japan are very welcoming and you receive a chorus of "welcome" (in English or Japanese) when you enter. at the Intergate, the desk clerks were often looking down at their screen with no greeting whenever I passed by. not even eye contact. Upon check-out there was initially only one clerk so I stood behind another guest checking out. a minute later another clerk showed up next to the first and immediately looked down at the screen. He didn't (if he noticed met at all) invite me to check out. a minute later another guest walked over to his station, got his attention and checked out. the front desk was helpful in ordering a taxi (in Japanese) to take us and our luggage to the train station.
