“Good for a several nights and stay”

Great location in the middle of Kyoto. Friendly staff and a beautiful hotel. I went for the Yokai Festival and had a great time. The hotel has everything you need for a several night stay.

Keio Prelia Hotel Kyoto Karasuma-Gojo was ultimately unmemorable despite a convenient location. Even in a higher-category room, the space felt noticeably tight. The room had a nice large bed, though it was pushed against two walls, leaving only a narrow walking space around it. The desk was useful but awkward for comfortably working on a laptop. The connected bench area and large windows helped relieve some of the claustrophobic feeling, though the beige color scheme and furniture lacked warmth or character rather than feeling relaxing or spacious. And yes, I understand hotel rooms in large cities tend to be compact, but this one still felt especially cramped. The room views were also disappointing. Depending on the side of the building, rooms either looked directly into another hotel’s guest rooms across the street, which reduced any real sense of privacy, or faced residential buildings with laundry hanging outside — so close that I could practically count the pairs of socks drying. Breakfast was functional, but not something I’d willingly pay extra for again. The selection felt underwhelming and far less appealing than breakfasts offered at other hotels during my trip. The public bath hours were oddly restrictive and inconvenient. I often felt rushed to use it in the morning before sightseeing, only to return later in the day wishing it had reopened sooner. Other hotels during my trip offered more flexible bath access, which made for a much more relaxing experience overall. Aside from one genuinely kind staff member, I found the front desk interactions somewhat cold and disengaged throughout my stay. When I asked to extend one more night, I was instructed to pack up, fully check out, store my luggage, and return again at standard check-in time. Other hotels during my trip handled extensions and room transitions more smoothly, so this felt unnecessarily disruptive and less considerate of my time and comfort. The hotel sits on a busy main street surrounded by several competing hotels. I would consider returning only for an excellent promotional rate; otherwise, I would likely choose a property with more character, better public bath access, and a location closer to Gion, which was one of the highlights of Kyoto for me.
