“Great staff and very clean”

The room was simple but clean. Staff was extremely helpful and courteous. They need to replace the pillows and comforters (too small for the beds). We paid over $200 a night . I expect a bit more . Giving a 5 stars for the staff :)

We stayed here for 3 nights and enjoyed the stay! It's centrally located and is about a 15 to 20 minute walk or a short bus ride from the Kyoto main station. The room had a small kitchen and fridge, and there's a grocery store around the corner, so it was nice to cook breakfast and dinner instead of going out for every meal. The tatami floors and futon mattress were more comfortable than I expected. Our hotel host Kohei was super friendly and helpful! He clearly loves Kyoto and is passionate about helping guests, so ask him if you have any questions about sights to see, the transit options, and his recommendations. We learned quite a lot speaking with him, and it helped make our visit a successful one. I highly recommend staying at the Pagoda Experience!

“Great apartment style hotel ”

We stayed here for two nights and would have extended to three if they’d had availability. We stayed here for two nights and would have extended to three if they’d had availability. The bedding is futon style on the floor and could do with being a bit thicker (hence only receiving four stars) but other than that it was a good size (for japan) and well equipped apartment. There’s a small table in the wardrobe if you choose to eat at it. The washing machine and clothes hanger were particularly handy. The bathroom is small but standard for Japan, and has shampoo, conditioner and body soap provided (as well as towels of course). The young guy who checked us in has great English and will explain everything to you carefully. We were able to leave our bags there for a few hours on the day we checked out, but beware they weren’t in a locked room, just the foyer area. Be aware they will charge ¥5000 if you lose your room key so if you’re prone to do so, like I am, be more careful! Also, there’s no lift so if you’re on the second or third floor you’ll be hauling your bags up stairs. There’s a Lawson’s a few minutes up the road, a great Okonomiyaki restaurant around the corner (although the chef speaks no English so practice ordering in Japanese!) and the Toji Station is a few minutes walk away (although we found it just as easy to walk the 20 minutes from Kyoto station as you have to change to the subway). Oh and the hostel around the corner, called The Next Door, does really good proper espresso coffee (and proper western style iced coffee if you prefer that). Overall this was a great apartment style option in Kyoto south.
