The room i booked is big and comfortable size. With the private onsen , it is perfect -Breadfast and dinner included. Food quality is great -Room is kept warm despite the harsh winter -Lobby has free flow of beverages between 3pm-8pm -Large carpark within hotel premises -Every staff is polite and courteous I can't think of anything that is negative. If u r in Matsumoto, this is the hotel to be in.

We arrived and were immediately impressed by the hotel. We had asked for a Japanese style room. It was amazing with views over Matsumoto and the mountains beyond. Our first evening meal was utterly delicious and the spiny lobster will remain in our memories for a long time. The reception was always extremely helpful and we enjoyed a massage and private onsen. I cannot recommend the hotel highly enough

We wanted to treat ourselves for an anniversary so booked in for a night. It is not cheap - we paid SGD 770 for the night, but it was a good experience all the way from check in to check out. The price includes dinner, which was plated beautifully and featured items like lobster sashimi, beef stew and bracken tempura. Breakfast was done buffet style and had both Japanese and Weatern dishes. There are onsens as well. We opted to pay 3000 yen for a private couple onsen for 45 minutes, but there are also public baths on the 4th floor. The bath on the 3rd floor, just off reception, switches between males in the morning and the ladies in the evening. The room was largish and I loved that the yukatas came in a variety of sizes. There is no room clean up till check out, but they do lay futon beds in the room. The room was well appointed and had a great view, small fridge, a safe, and coffee and tea making facilities. There was even a coffee bean grinder. There were ample power points. Wifi was okay though it did drop now and then. There are separate toilet and shower rooms. There is a souvenir cum general store in the lobby where you can even buy condensed milk ice cream. Staff are friendly and efficient. They do have a free shuttle bus from 5 pm at the Matsumoto train station to the hotel, and one the following morning at 9 am and 10 am back to the station.

Stayed 2 nights. Clearly the hotel prides itself on its ambiance, service and tradition, and it does deliver that. With an old fashioned feel, it’s surprisingly large, but still a charming ryokan with a truly amazing set of onsens. Seems to be a romantic weekend getaway, with few westerners here, and not much English spoken, but the courtesy and attention to detail by staff is amazing. Dinner is very traditional Japanese, breakfast a more cosmopolitan buffet - both very good. On the negatives - I felt they overcharge for alcoholic drinks - a small glass of beer, often only 3/4 full (and it’s hard to complain about that when it’s delivered with such courtesy!) was ¥900 or so. Phew! The bed was not really very comfy - doona was great but the mattress was past its prime, the edges collapsing when you sat on them, and the pillows were lumpy. Plus it IS quite an expensive place to stay. But it was an experience- and I enjoyed being there.
