This is a very good hotel. We stayed in the East Building, and I would certainly (a) return to Shiga Kogen to ski and (b) return to this hotel. The welcome was warm, friendly and efficient, and (importantly when you have six people and two cars full of ski gear) there is a large car park outside the front door. The room (1519) was fine. It was a bit on the small side with all our gear but it was all very functional. There's a ski hire shop downstairs, which was very useful. It is advisable to pre-book your ski gear, and note that the shop shuts at 17:00 in the afternoon. There is also a shop that sells clothing, drinks and snacks. We had an all-inclusive stay, and enjoyed breakfast and dinner in the restaurant. Bear in mind that you need to book for dinner fairly early in the day. However, the food was excellent at both breakfast and dinner, and there was a huge amount of choice. Breakfast was a large buffet, serving western and Japanese foods, and there was also someone on hand to make eggs. There was another buffet at dinner but this also came with a choice of main courses that were freshly cooked and brought to your table, as well as various freshly cooked offerings at the buffet (including some excellent tempura). The beef main course was also worthy of mention. The hotel is ski-in-ski-out, which is great, and it has a large boot/ski room in the reception area, with lockers and plenty of seating. There is a bus service that runs between the other buildings of the hotel, although we didn't use it. The bar area was lovely but had, to my Western eyes, very odd opening hours. If I remember correctly, it opened at 15:00 and then shut again at 17:00. It then reopened at 19:30. So, it was definitely catering for those who wanted a drink as soon as they had finished skiing, and those wanting an after-dinner drink. Sadly, I'm in the camp of wanting a drink just before dinner. Luckily, the shop sold beer.

“Slightly faded beauty”

Really enjoyed our stay here. Amazing location right the slopes - gondola basically runs out of the end of the hotel just next to the boot room. Our bedroom was good. Really enjoyed our stay here. Amazing location right the slopes - gondola basically runs out of the end of the hotel just next to the boot room. Our bedroom was good. A little tight for 3 singles but slept well and beds comfy. Views of the slopes from the room and the dining room were stunning. Staff all v friendly and helpful. Food options were incredible. We ate like kings. Highlights were the omelette chef every am - yes I had that option all 3 days. Good range of fruit and veg at each meal. And the main courses were excellent in the evening. Loved it - would use the brand again.

“A resort that has seen better days”

Been to various ski in ski out resorts but find this hotel a little underwhelming.. Don’t get me wrong. We do compare apples to apples. Firstly, for a ski resort that does not have a proper stairway to the public road access is truly disappointing. Unless you drive, a walk from the drop off point / bus stop to the hotel is truly challenging. During our stay we have seen numerous visitors treading this dangerous stairs slipped and fall. I have helped one senior lady who slipped and could not get up. Alternative way (along the road) is no less challenging except that you do not need to climb the snow filled stairs (is there one under the snow or just the small path). I truly understand that this resort is catered more to the locals. But very often we are left alone to try looking for solutions. Not that the staff is not helpful. There are really overloaded with the crowds. And they do not have solutions at times. As for the rooms, they are really really small. So take note if you have luggages you will k have little room to walk. The saving grace is the food. Access to dinner is straight forward and compared to some other ski resorts, this hotel shines bright! They do allow you to do check out after 9 p.m. for the next day. This helps a great deal if you are taking the early bus out.
