“Great value. Nice people. Small ryokan.”

Stayed here for one night while touring Beppu. Paid around Y25,000 for a half board ryokan here for 2 pax. Stayed here for one night while touring Beppu. Paid around Y25,000 for a half board ryokan here for 2 pax. This ryokan is about 10-15 minutes walk from the Beppu station, and the building is pretty old. There's less than 10 rooms in the whole building, and close to 6-10 staff working in the ryokan, meaning that close to 1 staff to 1 room ratio. Service was pretty good. Each time we exited the room, there would be at least one staff who would be stationed at the level to greet us and press the lift for us. Dinner there was also wonder, with a full course meal as expected from a ryokan, comprising of many dishes including the appetizer, soup, main course and dessert. Breakfast though was pretty varied was a little too Japanese for my liking. Nearby is the famous Takegawara onsen, which one can experience the sand bath for Y1,000. On the negative side, the ryokan is pretty old, with the look and feel of the building showing. The rooms smells of age, and the onsen is pretty small and poorly lit. Overall, I must say that this ryokan is not the most modern or coolest of ryokans, but the staff here do put in their best to make guests feel welcome and appreciated.

This is a small set up with minimal staff accommodation. We checked in late evening and there was only one male staff who could hardly handle English. The place is clean and neat. We took a double tatami room and the size is acceptable. The air-conditioning is good but the room has some kind of odd smell, Bath room is shared at the Ground Floor Public Bath. The room is clean and comfortable with close street view of opposite building. 7 Eleven is within 5 minutes walk. The room is quiet but early check out time at 10 am. The hotel or better put it B & B is about 15 minutes away from Hakata Station and could be accessed easily. This is best for budget traveller.

“A real experience without any highlights”

This made us feel Japanese. No over-the-clouds tourist welcome, it was the typical traveling salesman ryokan from the early 20th century: a bit run-down but with a authentic athmosphere. This made us feel Japanese. No over-the-clouds tourist welcome, it was the typical traveling salesman ryokan from the early 20th century: a bit run-down but with a authentic athmosphere. I recommend it. 3 stars because of smell and outdatedness of certain appliances. The onsen is GREAT ! That alone is worth it. And the way they do breakfast makes you feel special. Do remember to reserve before 16:00 if you want dinner the same day you arrive.
