Original landscape that makes everything forget In a secluded place, a secret lodging. The dishes are Japanese-style modern warm and innovative. You can enjoy the chef's live with the style that the central kitchen can be seen. Endo enthusiasts are healed by the at home atmosphere.

“Tranquillity paired with excellent food”

We chose this place to start our new year’s vacation, a choice we do not regret. We barely stopped our car, when multiple staff members were greeting us and handing out umbrellas because of the rain. Our luggage was brought to our room while we completed check-in. We chose a Japanese room with private onsen. The room is spacious, with a semi-separated living room, a balcony and, of course, your private hot spring pool. That said, please be sure to visit the two public onsen (they are gender separated, but rotate frequently), they are gorgeous! A fantastic dinner followed. We could specify your dietary requirements without problems (no meat). Waraku features a small, but well stocked bar: The perfect place to enjoy an after dinner drink! Breakfast is considered a very important meal, so be prepared for an enormous one, giving you enough energy for the day! By the way, you receive Japanese loungewear at check-in. unfortunately we couldn’t choose the colours, which were not really in our favour, so we decided not to wear it. But guests are allowed to wear it on premise, even for dinner (we saw different colours and styles - A choice would have been nice!). Overall we were very happy with our stay and would consider Waraku again, when we are in the area.

Clearly the service level has changed since 2012 ! My husband and I together with my brother in-law stayed here for 2 nights. We booked western styled rooms. The rooms were both large and beautiful with lovely exposed ceiling beams. The room had a separate seating area, toilet and private Onsen on the outside terrace. Our room was the last before the public Onsen. The Ryokan is not in the main town but we had a car so were able to drive down. The Ryokan did however offer to drive us down there so I imagine that if you do not have a car this is not a problem. Thought the Ryokan's in the town are probably more convenient , I'm not sure how big the Ryokan in the towns are as they all seemed quite close to each other. The town is charming and a nice place to walk around in. The Onsen at Satonoyu Waraku is Sulphur based so you do get the peculiar smell of sulphur but not a something that put us off. We found the hotel staff charming and accommodating. English was limited but there were two people that spoke the language. Dinner and breakfast was Kaiseki. Beautifully presented. On our second morning we asked for a quick breakfast as Kaiseki can be a drawn out affair and the staff not only did the breakfast at a special time but also prepared a Western styled breakfast with omelet and toast which is what we really wanted at the time. Staff also accommodated for people not eating raw fish and meat. Inform the Ryokan of your dietary requirements and they will do their best to accommodate. Having a private Onsen was a real treat especially if you are a bit prudish about bathing naked in public ! We would definitely recommend this Ryokan to friends . Free-wifi in the lobby area only .
